We found a black dog, probably rotwilder, lab mix, he has a white patch on his chest and white feet. Probably weighs about sixty pounds. This is someone's pet. He is very gentle, loves to climb in your lap. We have two dogs and he was not at all aggressive even though he was very hungry and wolfed down two full bowls of food. We took him to an emergency vet hospital in hopes that he had an implanted chip but he does not. He will sit on command and likes to sit with his paws crossed. We found in in the middle of Windermere Road between 63 and the entrance to Windermere West. He was shaking and tried to jump in our car when we stopped to see if he had identification. Under normal circumstances we would just keep him and post signs and try to find the owner but we can't do that right now. We don't want to take him to an animal shelter. He is just too sweet. Please if you read the forum and see this call, anyone you know from the Windermere and maybe Ridge area and ask if they know someone who is missing a good friend. If they don't please ask them to call people they know too. We need to locate the owner ASAP. Thank you.

Sounds like a sweet dog. Have you contacted the Lake Martin and Elmore County shelters to let them know he has been found? You might also want to put up a notice in the three local vets -- the one on Airport Road, Wayside on Dadeville Rd and the one on 63.

Just another example of why pets should be microchipped.

I hope someone didn't just dump him.

Thank you. Those are great ideas. I did call the shelter but it was closed. Also called animal control in hopes they could keep him for the night. This is spring break for my kids and we were on our way to take my daughter to job interviews. We cahnged our plans. I am traveling with her. My husband and boys are putting up signs in the area tomorrow morning and taking the poor dog to the shelter. If no one has claimed him by the end of the week we will try to pick him up and keep him until the owners can be found. We were a little worried with the economy and all that maybe someone dumped him but I don't know how anyone could part with such a sweet boy. He is so grateful for the smallest bit of affection and follows us around with a big smile on his face. When my son went to the store this morning the dog went to the front door and sat quietly waiting for him to return. He is, in fact, much sweeter than my own two dogs. I cried this morning at the idea of leaving him. Couldn't help myself. I really need to find someone to give this guy the love he deserves. We will contact all the vets as you suggested too. Thanks

Sounds like the sweet dog found sweet people to help him find his home.
Dr. Martin at Wayside Animal Hospital is a softie for dogs. If his owners don't show up, she may be able to help you find him a home.

It brings tears to my eyes to think someone would just dump him off. With 3 cats and 2 dogs, I just can't take any more animals in, but it just breaks my heart to think that someone would just dump off a pet.

Someone took one of my found posters down at the corner of Windermere and 63. We thought maybe the owner had come down for the weekend. No such luck. I have pictures posted on facebook and signs all around the area. I think I'll put a sign on the other side of the lake in case he swam across. I am really afraid that someone didn't want him and dropped him and told him to stay.
