Jews - Get the Hell out of Israel and go back to Poland and Germany. Helen Thomas is the epitome of why Americans think the press is totally out of control. Helen, like some others on the Supreme Court, needs to be in some type of retirement home that tolerates stupid statements.

Helen Thomas long ago stopped being a journalist and simply became the anti-semite in residence with the WH press pool. She is an absolute joke and has been for a long time. Why anyone gives her a shred of credibility is beyond me. She reminds me of that old uncle suffering from dementia that you put in the corner and let him ramble on while everyone is respectful but ignores what he says. We simply need to ignore her.

What a waste of valuable oxygen.....

She definitely needs to retire. It saddens me to see someone who doesn't know when it is time to go.

As a result of her comments and her totally inadequate apology, she was forced into retirement today. It's about time.

The sad reality is that she really spoke the truth to what a lot of pro-Palestinian/anti-Israel people really think.....which is that Israel should not exist. Even more sadly is that a good many of these people occupy senior positions in the current administration. Let's hope they can avoid acting overtly on their own internal biases but I am not optimistic.

Being very objective about the whole thing, I think it is good proof about the power and the influence of the Israeli lobby in this country. It wouldn't surprise me to know she got threats on her life.
I don't think this Administration is necessarily anti-Israel, I think that they just aren't as concerned about Israel. Don't forget a couple of weeks into the Administration that were dissed by the Israeli. The Israelis can do that only because of the power and influence of the Israeli lobby.
I'm probably much more sensitive to it than other people, because I grew up in the North East. Some schools where I grew up closed for the Jewish holidays over the Christian ones. And it was not unusual for young Jewish kids to summer at a Kibbutz.

I don't care about Helen Whoever or any other mouthpiece of the media, left or right. The same goes for our current crowd of Politically Correct elected officials. Anything to get re-elected.
The Israelis are fearcely nationalistic worldwide. They use every resource possible to survive in a very hostile region. Including water, mandatory military service, yep, lobbying the U.S. for support, defensive walls, big tax rates, etc. Just to survive. They are ready and willing to fight anybody, anytime to survive. With ALL the weapons they stockpile, nukes included.
Their enemy knows that any attack had better be a knockout, because the retaliation will be total.
I just wish that US citizens could experience such Nationalism. Have not since WW2, and not likely in the future.

They certainly are nationalistic. They make no apologies for it either.

probably more so than any other nation on the planet is they face an existential threat from so many quarters. And this is no imaginary, concocted threat. Large groups of people and several countries do not believe Israel should exist. Should Iran obtain nuclear weapons and the ability to deliver them I have zero doubt they will nuke Israel even if it means their own destruction.

While I wasn't alive during WWII my parents were and I am an avid reader of history during that period. I can tell you that a great many Americans rallied around the country during that time period and during the entire conflict we were only attacked domestically at Pearl Harbor. Imagine what our country would be like if Mexico, instead of sending illegals to work, were intentionally sending people here to blow up civilians. Close your eyes and imagine our response.

And yet the current administration and most of the U.N. doesn't believe Israel has a right to defend themselves. They are not so much nationalistic as fatalistic and understand the dire consequences of weakness on their part.

I'm not sure that they don't believe that Israel has a right to defend itself -- but Israel can be a bit annilistic in their thinking -- or other words, their idea of a "measured" response can be a bit more aggressive than is good for maintaining a balance in the Middle East. They can be a bit overzealous in their thinking at times. They don't always listen to us, and in fact, have actually hurt the US a few times.

In my international work, I've seen administrations that embraced them and administrations that preferred a bit of distance from them, but never once have we had an administration who didn't support them. I don't know of any time that we have suspended their interational programs (something we do to express our displeasure) even when we were displeased with them.

But, I will tell you that throughout the government, there are a number of people who are very skeptical (not anti Semitic) about Israel's intentions. They have been known to target our technology, which they will then exploit in their own industry, and not just for their own use

But, I did really enjoy a trip to their country and found the people to be warm and friendly. Interestingly, all of their senior officials in the IDF are seasoned combat veterans. I remember thinking that the country felt "small" and intimate in a way the US does not feel. And the food is excellent.

I don't disagree with you but I guess I give them more slack than others because I think we cannot truly understand what it means to live under an existential threat from people that really mean to follow through if they get the opportunity. And of course they will act in their own national interests even if it is not necessarily in ours. What is different with them versus so many other Middle East countries is that at least with Israel their national interests are actually sometimes aligned with ours.
