I admire the man and don't blame him for his opinion (I share it), but he did cross the line. As bad as I hate to admit it, the O was correct to dismiss him. What a mell of a hess.

It is a sign that morale is suffering. For most Commanders in Chief, bad morale would have been seen as bad and actionable.
However, for this Pretender in Chief, I fear it is a good thing. If he succeeds in displacing the competent and conscientious officers, he will have less resistance to his reduction of the Republic.
It is my opinion that the PiC is a domestic enemy.

Just this weekend, Friday evening through Sunday night, there were 52 SHOOTINGS with 8 fatalities. One 48 hour period with 8 dead, and meanwhile in Afghanistan our soldiers have rules of engagement that DO NOT allow them into areas where there 'may be need to fire your weapon'.
What a joke and danger this POS is.

McCrystal showed extremely poor judgement, not once, but several times. He was no longer fit to lead. Just another General with a big ego. Wonder how many people will have any interest in his views now that he will no longer have 4 stars on his shoulders? Maybe he'll get a book deal.
I surprised to learn that you hold the same opinions as McCrystal about specfic members of the the US National Security Team. Most of them aren't well known outside the beltway. The fact that you even know what McCrystal thinks about these people is a sign of his poor leadership.
Members of his staff will most likely also end their careers.

I share his opinion that the CIC and VP are incompentent with respect to prosecuting this war (and in most other matters of governance). As I stated, I believe he crossed the line and was properly relieved. Dosen't mean he wasn't right.

What exactly did he "tell like it is?". The Strategy was developed by him, so apparently he supported it and was executing it. Apparently he didn't disagree with the mission or the strategy. He didn't express reservations about implementing the strategy.
What he did was bad mouth the national security team on a personal level to the media. He came across as disparaging the civilian leadership. By our Constitution, the civilian leadership runs the military.
He is a brilliant strategist, but apparently he had no understanding of the political-military environment that his job put him in. Who says this kind of stuff to a reporter, who is writing a profile on you?
If you called a press conference and personally attacked your colleagues and your bosses, and it was printed, would you expect to keep your job?

I question why his public relations advisor (yes the one that resigned) had him interviewed by a Rolling Stone free lance reporter. Seems quite odd to me that you would allow a reporter full access. The PR advisor job is to make sure the boss is protected in these interviews.
McCrystal's staff didn't do him any favors. Understand he ran a pretty wide open environment for his inner circle, but all the more reason that they should have done a better job of protecting him. I imagine most of them will be seeking other career options shortly. Although they couldn't control what came out of McCrystal's mouth, they should have been circumspect in their comments. Keep in mind, his staff is not comprised of junior officers -- most likely Col's and LTC. People who should know enough to protect the boss.

They may all have book deals waiting in the wing. It certainly makes no sense as Hound says to select Rollingstone for your interview. Actually, I can't see any executive having a similar interview. There is more to the story, I believe.

They decided on Rolling Stone because they wanted to reach a younger demographic.
