Price for regular unleaded is $2.56 a gallon at Wal-Mart and Jet Pep this morning. Yesterday it was $2.42 at each place. You turn the corner onto HWY 22, and the price is still @2.45 at the Shell and $2.42 at the Eagle. It will be interesting to see what the price will be at Murphy Oil (Wal-Mart) and Jet Pep on Tuesday of next week. I wager it will be back down.

It may be the minor hurricane instead. Gas today at Sams was 2.46

If the price drops again on Monday it may be gouging.  What I was told by a jobber (they guys who distribute the gas to stations) is that the station sets the price based on the cost of the current delivery.  It may be that the latest delivery cost more so they raised prices.  I have never been able to make sense of gas prices but no doubt they go up when they think demand may rise or the supply is constrained.  Whether the impending tropical storm is impacting gas prices already seems less likely to be the answer.  Let us know what prices are like on Monday and we will have a better idea as to what is going on.

From what I've seen over the years, Walmart, Sams, Murphy Oil sets the low price in about every market they enter.  My guess is gas is about to go up to whatever Walmart says.  Without Walmart in the rural areas, we'd all be paying a lot more for gas.  Support the cheapest gas guy, is my motto.

I agree with the price anaylsis.... my motto is support the non-ethanol guys. I need to keep them in business since half of my vehicles and boats have an ethanol allergy and I get better performance (without ethanol) in the ones that don't.

Thanks for the info. We are about to head down and I usually get gas at Jet Pep or Walmart. We turn right at JP to get to our place so I'll wait and stop at one of the other places.

drove back from Mobile this morning - gas on the interstate was 2.489 at most competitive spots (including the majors).  Filled up at Entec on hwy 14 at I-65 for 2.439 (regular).  That area in Prattville/Millbrook usually has the best prices in our extended area.

Maybe just bad timing. AP story in the news today notes shortage of supplies across the southeast are going to drive prices up 5cents/gallon in the next week. Seems they go up by a nickle but come down by the penny!! Maybe I should learn how to sail;-)
