Our AC went out Thursday night, so some friends invited us to stay at their place. We were very grateful, since our house would have been unbearable without air conditioning. I don't mind the summertime heat, except when I'm trying to sleep, and I don't think I would have gotten a minute's sleep this weekend, not with our house being a big oven.

As it turned out, I didn't get much sleep anyway, because the neighbors loved their music. They loved it loud, and they loved it late. I even commented on Friday evening that I was glad they had good musical taste, because not listening wasn't an option, since they were playing it so loud that it was hard to talk over it. Unfortunately I spoke too soon. At some point after dinner they turned the stereo over to the youngsters, and we were subjected to something modern and atonal. That was around 10:00 or 11:00; I don't know exactly how late they kept the music blaring, but I know it was still going strong at 2:00 a.m.

Amazingly enough, as loud as the music was, their screaming was louder. Nothing against having fun, but if I could hear them from across the slough, they had to be suffering some hearing damage. Or maybe they have already suffered it, which is why they have to play their music so loud and scream to be heard.

On Saturday the music started again, on Saturday night it was still blaring, and once again they turned the music over to the kids after dinner, who again were still going strong well into the early morning hours.

The venting is almost done, but one more: If you live in the big log cabin in Cherokee slough-- the one with the big lawn and the two-level dock with the party lights-- please have some consideration for your neighbors (and their guests) and SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not everyone wants to listen to you party until almost sunrise. I'm not saying you can't stay up late and listen to your music, just turn it down so that everyone around you doesn't have to listen, too.

Except I would use either a chain saw or motor driven blower.  We have neighbors that get louder and louder as they drink more but fortunately they are seasoned citizens and don't stay up too late.  They do laugh a lot and talk loudly.

By the way, we used to rent a house across from Chucks and one of our favorite times was sitting on the dock late and listening to the karaoke.  So bad......yet so funny.  Sweet Home Alabama never sounded worse.....  :-)

The thought crossed my mind, but I would have needed a much louder stereo system. The one I have in my own house would blow long before it got loud enough to compete, and I don't think our friends had one even as good as ours.

Plus, doing that would make me no better than the inconsiderate people I'm talking about. If there were only two houses in the slough maybe, but I wouldn't want to annoy the other people in the morning after they had to listen to that other racket all night.

Try the police next time. They may have better luck and I agree, why stoop to their level.

I would put my clothes back on and go over there and knock on their door. When they answered it I would ask them to please turn down the noise and probably give them a sermonette about being good, respectful, and thoughtful neighbors. Somehow I would weave into the message that the law would be out the next time. I would then bid them a ggood night.

When some kids at a neighbor's home on the slough cranked up some extremely obscene Rap music, every other word screamed MF or F or worse. Young children all over listening and looking. I was headed for my truck keys when another neighbor charged out his door, crossed the yards, entered the offending home and stayed for about 5 minutes. Did not hear what he said, but no more such music since from the same group, identified by their boat.
Worked that time, but there was some risk in that approach.

Subject:   Punishment is one thing, Sting is going too far

Look, he wants to punish them for inconsideration, not drive them to suicide........  Speaking of Sting, one of my co-workers went to a party at a house that looks down on Chastain Ampitheater during a Sting concert. He said the music was so mellow that no one was even listening. They were just chatting away on the deck while Sting sang them to sleep....
