Fair Market Value of winnings mutilplied by his/her effective federal and state tax rate. Misc 1099 should be issued if the FMV is in excess of $600. If you do not receive a 1099 from the sweepstakes sponsor, don't think that you won't have to pay your taxes. You are liable whether the sponsor sends the proper forms or not.

that must have been a typo. I'm sure it was 599. or $5.99.

Thanks to kizma for pointing out taxes. I am sure you are quick to point out to powerball winners that after taxes their 50 million is down to a mere 25. how depressing. Next time Chik Fil a gives away free milkshakes and I am lucky enough to score one, I will hold up the line and demand a 1099G. :)

The value should only be listed as $0, because a stay on Lake Martin is priceless!
