Just read the morning headlines:
Kim Kardashian vows not to "Tweet" or post to her Facebook page until $1 million is raised for AIDS Awareness.
The motivation to action is now the withdrawal of self-absorbed drivel from an F-class pseudo-celebrity? Was I transported from earth to this strange new world?

Now that I know this I have torn it up......if only she had also offered to move to France it would be the end of AIDS funding as we know it. Sadly, pathetic people living their lives through adulation of talentless trash like her may actually send a check.......if they had any money or a job.

-This kind of foolishness is what makes America great! People have the freedom to be pretty much as stupid as they like.
-However, the sad thing is that a lot of these people just don't understand the dynamics of the political-cultural-economic system that allows them to live like this.
-The rule of law based on Judeo-Christian values and teh wealth created by the semi-capitalis market system provides Americans the protective cultural framework within which these kinds of people and these kind of antics can exist.
-Once rule of law is replaced by rule of men, and once the market system is replaced by the socialist-statist system, then the culture that provides oxygen to these kind of people and these kinds of freedoms will be no more.
-We should try not to be too dismissive of these clowns for they show that America continues to be a great place to live, ...may it ever be so!

America is great because an airhead can garner public support for infantile actions, and never produces anything for that society? She simply demands to be be satisfied, and we should then satisfy? Why didn't she vow to go work at AIDS outreach in Africa or the US if she was so concerned?
This really is a great country!!

From last nights news, I gather that a number of "celebrities" are doing this. I confess that I have reached an age where I don't know who most of them are or what they actually do, but then I don't tweet or follow twitter either.
If it raises money for a cause, who am I to complain? If they have enough followers who actually care what they are doing or thinking every minute of the day, that when they stopped, someone would donate money to a cause to get them back, how bad can it be? Especially in a year where charitable donations are down.
BTW, the Salvation Army is out in force. I stopped by the Kettle on my way out of Walmart.

They are simply practicing the Conservative approach to Economic 101 of free markets. They a not asking for government handouts for AIDS. Other than not caring for the persons, why do you have a problem with their marketing approach to raising funds?
As to being productive, Reagan was an actor before becoming Gov, Arnold was the Terminator before becoming Gov, and they are simple 3 airheads on TV. Maybe, one will join Palin on her 2012 ticket.
As to their going to Africa, do you have an issue with parents who support the Bush war in Iraq but do not encourage their children to join the military so they can be sent to the frontline?

The comments are not critical of the marketing concepts, just the moral and social mindset. If I could get people to donate money if I vowed not to brush my teeth or wipe, I'd be all over it. Suppose that is the "gravitas" of celebrity, just appalled that the world now values things I was taught not to value.
So I take it that you support the concept of "ends justifying the means." (Rahm Emanuel, Barak Obama, et al)
Is part of being liberal the ability to deny the absolute?
(Yes, I have a problem with those parents........) What about you?
