How to secure a floating swim platform

I just bought a lake house and it has a floating, stand alone, swim platform. It is currently secured with ropes to hooks in the lake bed. The hooks are good. I am worried aout the ropes. One of the ropes has broken. Should I use rope? chains? cable? to tie the platform to the inground hooks?

chains, secured at the anchor in the ground and on your dock with a metal U thing. I don't know what the name of it is, but it looks like a U, has a hole in each end that you thread the screw through to close the U. I know that will be strong enough but you may need to experiment with noise. Many docks that I see while showing houses have metal banging on metal which is really noisy when waves roll. You might have to cover portions of the chain with heavy rubber hoses or whatever works with your exact setup.

They are called a clevis. Use staleness chain and clevis.. Use enough chain for full pool.
You can get them all at the Home Despot.

Skip all that talk about brackets and hooks and screws. Since your dock is a stand alone swim platform it will not
be hitting anything and should not be noise, Your best bet is to use chains, they will last much longer than rope,Cable will work but make sure you use a rrubber cap on the end of the cables so your swimmers do not get stuck with the end of the cable. A nice thick rope will work for years and cost much less to set up. Make sure to use a good knot that will not come undone from the constant movement. I'm sure you already know you have to have it long enough to allow the dock to float at full pool.

Floating DOCKS tend to stray a bit, and prefer nice round bumpers be attached to the DOCK. The more nice round bumpers attached to your DOCK the less likely it is to go wondering off to someone elses house. If you dont want bumpers all around it, you'd better chain that DOCK down with about 10 logging cables. Just sayin'.

What if the dock is in cold water this time of year, is there a danger of it drifting off or are the bumpers still a must in the cold environment.?

I don't think it would be as hard in the cold. It seems like it is more difficult to contain the docks when the weather is warm and the water is up.

You guys must have missed the part where this platform is "stand alone". Apparantly it doesn't need bumpers or docks to be useful. It merely needs assistance in staying at home and not straying into neighboring sloughs.

I cut the rope and took away the bumpers.....if it doesn't go down in 4 hours, I guess I'll have to call the dock Doc.

I understand that long durations in that position can cause permanent physical harm - you might have to get a replacement dock.
