Catherines Market on 63 has great cuts of meats ... they are normally very generous thick cuts, but they will custom cut them thinner if you want.  I love both their bone in ribeye and their boneless.  They normally have them on sale for $8.99 or $9.99 a pound.  Great deal.

As many answers to that question as there are steak eaters. Just, not Walmart, OK, for any kind of beef. Bad , bad stuff.

We more often than not get ours from Foodland in Dadeville.  Even when we go to Auburn for other groceries not carried around here.
Yep, the Grilling forum is a great addition to these forums.

Catherines off of Hwy 63

Piggly Wiggly have butcher cut what you want

Wait till whole beef tenderloins go on sale for $8.99 per pound or less and cut and trim your own steaks, that is what we do as you can get about 12 1 3/4" to 2" steaks our of a average size tenderloin. We buy 2 or 3 and vaccum freeze.

Note that the local stores like Foodland - that have some pretty good steak- but they are "select" and not "choice". Winn dixie has choice & usually more per pound of course. I buy strips at Foodland occasionally and use a blade type tenderizer with reasonable success.

Where to buy for me is a matter of convenience. WD and Publix are close and both have good quality beef cuts. The folks at WD seem to be deeply offended if I ask for a special cut. Therefore, it is usually Publix hands down.
And, it is often the lowly Sirloin steak, special cut to about 1 1/2 inches thick, at $3.99 a pound. Big steak, plenty for 2 people. 95% of the time, grilled "properly" (Grilling Forum), it is tender, moist and flavorful. IMHO.

I have to tell you a story about WD...they advertised Lamb blade cut steaks from the shoulder for $~3.00. I went in and asked for the whole shoulder for the same price and it blew the "butcher"'s mind. He said he couldnt do that because the computer wouldn't allow it. I guess the weighing machine had eyes.... I told him to just pretend he had cut the shoulder into steaks and that the computer wouldn't know... He said he couldn't do that... the store manager finally convinced him he could.

Gotta love it.  It's a really sad day when the "computer" decides can and cannot be done.  No wonder WD has had to close stores.  No common sense.  The store in Alex City is so bad, I only go in there if I absolutely have to.

If you are ever in Montgomery try Peppertree Steaks and Wines.  Top quality stuff, although they don't part with it casually.  A properly prepared W-D slab of dead cow is just as good.

I checked them out the other day.  I was looking for dry sherry, not meat, but I checked out the meat counter.  I think I'll try them next time I buy steak.  Right next door is the Vintage Olive, which has every kind of olive oil you might ever want.  Expensive, yes; but the one I bought is amazing.

I'm not down on WD specifically.  The East Montgomery  and Wetumpka stores seem fine.  It's the one in Alex City that is pathetic.  You have to watch the "sell by" dates on everything.  And I've thown out produce that was fresher than some that they are offering for sale.

Better than their olive oil is their balsamic vinegars....the fig and pomegranate varieties put a completely different light on vinegar!

Expensive yes, but the kids absolutely loved them as stocking-stuffers.  Problem is we didn't end up with any.  Oh well, my wife's birthday is in a few weeks and maybe she will be blessed with some.

BTW, Peppertree's chilled and frozen entrees are a working couple's best friend, and their pimiento cheese and chicken salad make great lunches.

Has anyone tried Chuck Eye steaks? On occasion, Foodland in Dadeville has them - inexpensive and very tasty, in my opinion. Also, not particularily a healthy cut of beef (if there is such a thing).

That's right, I did see they had vinegars too.  I want to get back over there.  I just saw a recipe today that involved marinating skirt steak in balsamic vinegar.
