It's easy to get carried away this time of year! Not really nothing to do boating wise. At the bottom of this page, you will see a "contact webmaster" block/link. He operates all of the Lakes Online sites. His name is Bruce Pate. The price is VERY reasonable, and you will find him most accomodating. I do indeed pay for advertising on this, and other Lakes Online sites. What business are you in? Just curious!

first off - please don't take offense.I come to the forum for fellowship, news and other views of lake life. I have admired your work and your new facilty and wish you great success. But most pages have over 50 posts either by or about you. I am a mechanic and my identity is not hiden.

Offer helpful hints with no expectations other than  appreciation. Make a point of getting to know folks and do good for many  community members. Show no bias to insiders, outsiders, locals, non-locals, rich, or poor. When you do a job, get it done fast and stand behind your work 100%.......... almost all of Cat's forum  and non-forum advertising comes from folks other than Cat (because of the above factors). He's not perfect, but he goes out of his way trying.

We have a business and don't advertise here (because it has nothing to do with boats, lakes, or the LM community), but we use similar tactics as above. Giving complimentary and unbiased advice (and help) builds trust that ultimately results in lifelong clients when folks do need our services.

It certainly helps to know what you are talking about - in all due respect- you don't. Cat does.

I am the first to criticize any business that uses the forum for free advertising. I encourage those who do to either contact the Webmaster and take out a pair advertisement or get lost. The forum is free and is supported by paid advertisers. You need take out an ad and become an active member of our forum. As to CAT, he is a paid supporter of the forum. Additionally, if you look at Boat Maintenance you will find MANY posts offering free help and advice. Is he advertising when he offers help? To suggest that CAT is reveiving free advertising is both unfair and untrue. If you want to open your business to a party than you too can post pictures. He also writes and posts articles on maintenance. What is your business and why don't you become a paid advertiser and offer free advice to those in need?

I knew this would be fun.  Spyke, it is hard to get around the Forum Advertising Posse.  I mean, I set a stop watch after you posted to see how long it took.  BigFoot might be able to start a new pool-alooza on this.  Someone try to advertise without paying for attendance and you are caught.

You are right that some postings would lead some of us to a particular business, but, as others have said, those have paid their dues.  John C wants to sell houses to and for all of us and our friends, and we know that.  But he has paid for attendance, and has offered advice, information and opinion without wanting anything in return except to show a good name.  I am sure you have shown your name to be good in your business, and have the customers and following to show for it.

And, btw, the brakes on my Corolla seem to be making a noise......

It may not have appeared as such, but I am kinda/sorta on your side here.  You are correct that the postings can be construed as advertising, and the rules say "no no" to that.  I, and others, was just trying to provide some background.  I have discussed by email this "quasi-advertising" that some are allowed to do.  I do not have a problem with that, and did not have a problem with someone saying "hey I want to cut some yards this summer".  If it got out of hand on the forum then I would think otherwise.

Cat has offered much to this forum, and to Lake Martin.  He has had a "forum" to do so, and has used it well, and not out of hand.  If you feel like you would be well served to advertise with this group of folks, then I would suggest your taking a paid ad out with the Webmaster, and then use the forum as you can.  Without folks like Cat, John C and others paying for advertising we would not have a forum to banter about with each other, and they would not have a forum to 'stretch" the rules just a bit.  But, the point is, that their contributions to the forum have gone over and beyond their quasi-advertising.  Just saying...and also saying that I hope no one has been disrespected.  I did not take it to be that way.

Nice intro to the Forum, Dude.   Your first post,, I checked. Bad start. It turned me off, anyway.
Stay away from the Off Topic Forum, Dude. You cannot compete.
The other Forums (Fora?) are just a bunch of somewhat normal folks who enjoy anonymous companionship, sharing experiences, asking for help, giving help, telling jokes, voicing concerns, and solving problems. And, starting a Party.
Word-of-Mouth in a small community like Lake Martin is a very powerful tool, especially with access to a Forum like this one. Use it to your best advantage or,, at your peril.

Well if you've been a member for that long, today is your first post or you changed your alias.....just sayin'. I'm not trying to knock (or mock) you either, and the suggestions I offered early on were for real. Another suggestion; change your alias again (or go back to your old one) and start over.....help folks on this forum and they will help you.

Maybe I missed something.  What got deleted???  Again, I go to my only post on this thread.  Skype, what business are you in?  Did a previous post get deleted?  It is possible to turn this around?  I did indeed missed Saturday post.  I was kinda sleepin' watchin' football, doin' Dude things.  Friday was SORTA tough.  Kinda like a FOG.
