I find myself asking myself once again what this country is coming to.   6 people dead, others critically wounded and the Congresswoman is fighting for her life.  Yeah, they got the suspect, but once you are dead, what does that matter?

Terrible news and we should pray for the victims and their families.

From preliminary reports it looks like he was mentally unstable.  As for what is this country coming to, there are some good things and some bad things happening all the time but the more you ready history the more you realize that nothing is really new.  There were other times in our history where violence was even more prevalent.  The difference is today we have the 24/7 news cycle and each story gets magnified in its importance.

Want to bet the government media makes him a cause celebre because of the nature of his instability?  You watch and see......

The National Media (and the Sheriff in the impacted county) are already blaming talk radio (Rush, etc), cable news (Hannity, etc.) for the shooting of the Congresswoman. There are kooks out there who will kill people. Was Rush and Hannity or their predecessors to blame for:

  • Both Kennedy's
  • John Lennon
  • The two policemen in Athens, Al
  • ML King, Jr.
  • The Hundreds killed in Oklahoma City
  • 9/11
  • Thousands in Mexico
  • Elizabeth Smart's kidnapping
  • Babies thrown off the bridge in S Alabama

There are evil people all over this world waiting to explode.

Very good points.  But the politicians will fall all over themselves to get media time over this to get face time and push their agendas.  To me a wacko is just a wacko.  Yes, what they do makes sense to them.  But not to anyone rational.

According to his writings on the internet, it appears that he was certainly deranged.  Apparently he was obsessed with government, the Constitution and grammar.  Very sad situation.

I'm watching the coverage this morning and I don't see anyone being blamed for anything, other than a very mentally deranged young man.

Bill Press was on C-Span this morning blaming the Tea Party and Sara Palin because they had targeted her in the last election.  I only hope they don't withhold his deserved punishment for too long.  Maybe a swift trip to the injection table will cause others to think a little before committing such acts.  Of course in the world we live in now you never know when you go to a mall or any other public place that you will go back home.

Obviously a sad day! Only normal that people look for reasons. People with agendas often don't think beyond their agandas. What I found interesting is that, as usual with teh "unstable." there were signs, and society tried to deal with them in this case. Reports state that the shooter had several run-ins with the "authorities" and that instead of jail time, he was sent, on at least two occasions, to "diversion" programs. Perhaps these programs actually help some people with problems; hopefully it helps a large number, in order to offet the carnage caused by this one who got through!

I said the same thing to DH last night.  But as he pointed out to me, you really can't do anything about what people say -- it's only when they actually do something.  Apparently he was forced to withdraw from community college for disruptive behavior.

I wonder if his parents ever tried to get him some help.  Of course, once someone is legally an adult, there isn't a whole lot that can be done, unless the person is willing.

Dems, Media Blame Tea Party, Palin for Shooting; Shooter Linked to Leftwing Politics

As U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords fights for her life after a mad gunman shot her on Saturday, some Democrats and major media have moved to pin the blame for her attack on the tea party movement and conservatives like Sarah Palin, despite the fact that the shooter was both deranged and fascinated by leftwing politics.

Giffords' Democratic colleague, Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva, told Mother Jones magazine within hours after the rampage that the “political tone and tenor” created by Palin and the tea party movement had set the stage for the shooting.

Grijalva said Palin's “apparatus” had put Giffords' and his own life at risk.

“Both Gabby and I were targeted in the apparatus in that cycle [saying] these people are ‘enemies.’” He added: “The Palin express better look at their tone and their tenor.”

The liberal New York Times was not far behind Grijalva, publishing a lead story headlined "Bloodshed Puts New Focus on Vitriol in Politics."

The Times insuated that conservative criticism of President Barack Obama and his policies may have been at the root of this weekend's violence, noting "... it was hard to separate what had happened from the heated nature of the debate that has swirled around Mr. Obama and Democratic policies of the past two years."

The paper even suggested tea party criticisms of  Obama's healthcare plan, the debate over Arizona's new rules on police handling of illegal immigrants and even the fact Giffords was Jewish could have played a role. The Times also claimed that the fact Palin's political action committee had targeted Giffords for defeat may have played a role.

Plus,  I'm having a real difficult time with the death of a beautiful 9 year old child.  Sometimes I have a hard time sorting thru remorse and anger, especially when an innocent kid is involved..  Guess it's a PaPa thing..

So do I and the predicted response by the government media was an observation about how they will react to this instead of the way ordinary Americans would.  We are all appalled and sickened and think about the impact on the lives of others and many in the government media and eventually advocacy groups (if not already) will take this sad event and even before the dead have been buried and turn it into a political issue to their advantage. How soon before we hear pronouncements from the Brady Foundation, from liberal commentators, etc.?  They will all publicly decry this sorry event while in privacy rub their hands in glee because it gives them a boost for their cause or allows them to pillory their political adversaries.  To me that is equally sick and sad.

The 9 year old was born on 9/11/01 and the grandaughter of Dallas Green who was the manager of the Phillies when they won the World Series in 1980.

See below and be sickened by yet another Demoncrat willing to exploit the misery of others....  Sad and pathetic, as if somehow the nature of this tragedy gives them the right.

Same day a friend of mine's youngest son Luke was born.  When I called him at the hospital to congratulate them he was watching the TV with all the news and I told him to turn the dam thing off and enjoy his new son.  Can't even begin to imagine the grief.......

Armey: Tea Party Cannot 'Stand Down' From Debate After Shootings

By Jim Meyers and Kathleen Walter

Former House Majority Leader and tea party patriarch Dick Armey tells Newsmax his activists were responsible for thwarting Democrats’ attempts to ram a spending bill through the lame duck session of Congress.

The Texas Republican also declares that the House Republican majority should vote to repeal Obamacare and “something magical could happen in the Senate,” asserts that “virtually anybody” who gains the Republican nomination will defeat President Obama in 2012 — and predicts that none of the current GOP front-runners will be the party’s nominee.

Armey was first elected in 1984 and served as majority leader from 1995 until he left the House in 2003. He was a chief author of the Contract with America in the 1990s, and today is chairman of FreedomWorks, a 700,000-member organization advocating smaller government.

On Sunday, Armey, like many political leaders, decried the shootings in Arizona that seriously wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and killed six others.

"The fact of the matter is, we still have extremely important critical issues of public policy that must be sorted out," Armey said on ABC's "This Week."

"Now, hopefully this will be done in a more civil way. But this incident is no basis by which anybody who sees their duty to America to stand down from that duty, but to redouble it, perhaps with a greater degree of caution, and hopefully with a greater degree of civility.

"We've always wanted that," he said. "But still, nevertheless, we must do our duty and defend our liberties in this great country."

I agree 100% with Alahusker.  Screw politics.  People were killed and critically injured.
I can't believe Lotowner and MM would even be concerned about what is being said about their political heros.  Shame on you both.  I don't think the sheriff was wrong -- I think he was right.

Everytime I see that mug shot of the shooter with the smirk on his face, I want to slap it off his face.
People need to start paying attention to the imagery and the words they use in political discussions.  Educated people should be able to come up with better analogies than gun analogies.  This was a wake up call.  You are responsible for the effects of your words, no matter who you are.

I"m ticked off that when the young man was forced to withdraw from the community college last Fall that his parents did not insist he get some help.  It's hard, but it can be done.  Now they are horrified and in tears, but it is too late.  All the signs were there.

I certainly do not agree with anything about Sheriff Dupnik..   the guy is charged with the responsibility of enforcing laws and  dispassionately gathering facts related to the massacre.  Instead,  he effectively gave the murderer a pass by blaming the tradegy on political discourse, talk radio, immigration laws and anything else he could rail against.  This guy is an embarassment to the law enforcement community.

I don't think he blamed the political discourse.  I think he expressed a law enforcement view that it may have contributing factor that caused the actions of the young man.
I give him a pass.  If you had just seen the results of a shooting rampage, I think you might express an opinion too.  Don't forget, the Congresswoman's office had been vandalized  and she had received death threats, as have other pols in AZ.

I don't outrightly blame the negativity of the political discourse, but how can anyone say definitely that it didn't contribute?  We don't know how these things affect the mentally unbalanced.

I have to agree with husker on this one.  The guy's job is law enforcement, not advocacy...I happened to pick up an interview the next day where the interviewer gave him ample opportunities to back off and he didn't.

The man has absolutely no proof whatsoever that any of the things he said contributed to the shooter's motivations were in any way, shape, or form true.  He was way out of line.

I have to say you are right.   I saw his intial remarks and attributed it some kind of knowledge he had gained from the suspect, but now it appears that it was pure speculation on his part.
