Whoopi: Talking Caused Lynching

On "The View" on Tuesday, Whoopi discussed whether the Giffords shooting could be attributed to political rhetoric: "When I was growing up – people talking – and saying things – whipping folks up – caused a lot of people to get lynched."

I don't know about when she was a child, but lynching continued long after the 1800's.

Latest case of lynching was in the 1960's but even more recent examples (i.e., Byrd in Texas) occurred in the 1980's.

But what is comical is she was born and raised in Manhattan, not exactly the Jim Crow south, and her mother was a teacher and a nurse and her father was a clergyman (although he left the family when she was young).  This is just another example of a leftist actor pretending to be what she isn't......

I don't think you personally have to experience everything to make a comment -- if you've read anything about the South, you know that in fact, people were lynched on suspicions and false accusations.  Suppose Condeleeza Rice had said it?

I just thank God that those days are behind us.

I agree that you don't have to personally experience but if you read what she said the implication is she did experience it when she clearly did not.  She is about my age and I too grew up outside the south and I can tell you that lynching was not something I would represent as being a personal experience.

Have it your way.  As you know, I grew up outside the South too.  Thank God we never had this experience.

It is interesting how the albatros of lynching has been hung around the Sourh alone. The worst case of this was the New York Draft Riots when dozens of blacks were lynched. Remember Joseph Smith, the Mormon founder? He was lynched in Illinois.
This in no way excuses lynching. It was horrible but practiced through out the country. The only thing that bugs me is these historically illiterate, sanctimonious blathering fools like Whoppi.

I agree and I don't have a problem with her mentioning this, I just object to her making it seem like it was something she personally experienced.  Like you and I, we never did.
