Okay, I'm not defending the practice. I wonder if it came about because of the deplorable condition of the pipes in a lot of those old buildings in DC, which makes the water undrinkable. But, in every office I've worked, we've had a "water fund" that everyone that wanted to drink water or make coffee contributed to. Ran about $5 per month, per person. I wonder if this isn't more the "royal" treatment that Congressional members have come to expect.

At our company we only give away free drinks that contain caffeine and sugar......improves productivity, keeps em awake and working. :-) We do provide bottled water in the 5-gallon size. Don't like to generate all those plastic bottles that would have to be recycled plus its ridiculously expensive.

How about this compromise? Cut this year's budget by $100B and you can drink all the bottled water you want!!
