Interesting talk on Morning Joe. Our participation in the Coalition effort could cost this country $1B. So far we have launched 162 missiles (at a cost of $1M each) and the Brits? Just 12. The French dropped a few bombs on Day 1. Obama says that we can do this within our budget... And I saw where we are giving Tunisia $1B. Your thoughts?

Add an F-15 at about $30 million or more....

I, like you, would like to believe there is a lot going on/has gone on behind the scenes.  However, from the outside it doesn't appear there is and just looks like pure chaos within this administration.  And Obama comes across as being completely out of touch with reality - indeed it appears as if he isn't comfortable with controversy and avoids having to make a decision.  My, my what have we come to when the French are the ones leading the way in something military.

And nobody seems to be able to agree on the desired end-state...and what will be left if indeed Qadafi is deposed.

I am just glad we haven't lost any of our personnel

What a mess...

If it is only $1 billion I will be shocked.  I saw an analysis of what it costs to keep four F-15 fighters in the air 24 hours a day to enforce just one sector of the no fly zone and it was staggering.  And if they actually have to engage the enemy the costs go up dramatically.

Had not heard about the funds for Tunisia.  What is the point of that?

But I have to tell you I am much less concerned about what Obama is spending on this ragtag, confused mission than I am about his domestic spending policies that are giving us $1+ trillion annual deficits.  Our monthly deficit in February alone was $247 billion, which is much more than the entire average annual deficit for the eight years of the Bush administration!!  To me that is mind boggling and exceptionally more disturbing than what is going on in Libya.

... to have that 600 billion to 1 trillion spent in Iraq by W? It would be even nicer to have the 7500+ American soldiers and contract workers back. Of course Mr. Bush's adventure was "emergency spending" and completely off-budget so not counted as part of the "deficit"*. Not "blaming Bush", just pointing out a few of the facts most of the nostalgic writers on this forum never seem to recall.

* But it sure as heck is counted in the "debt"!!!

Archie, according to CBO the Iraq war cost $709 billion.  Yes it would be nice to have that money back.  But the federal government has also spent $8-$10 trillion on the war on poverty which I consider it to be an even bigger waste of money.  But I am not wishing I had it back because it is like wishing I could turn rocks into gold.  It would be nice but it isn't happening.  Not "blaming LBJ", just pointing out a few of the facts some of the nostalgic writers on this forum never seem to recall.

But look at it another way, it took 8 years for Bush to add $709 billion to the national debt.  Obama is adding that much and more every 3 months!!!  So quit worrying about what Bush did over an 8 year period and focus like a laser beam on what Obama is doing to us every month.......it has got to stop and wishing we could recover past money spent by the government is not a solution.

That's right, we lost a F-15 yesterday. I'm concerned that this is going to turn into mission creep. I can see it happening whether Kadafi goes or not. And what is the plan if he does go? I think we're giving Tunisia a "bonus" for their rebellion... Actually, I don't know what that is for. Maybe it's their prize for starting all these other rebellions. I see this complete separate from any concerns about domestic spending... At least with domestic spending we are at least spending the money on our own people (not counting illegals). But, we really can't afford any of it until we get our debt under control.

It is impossible to get debt under control until spending is under control, an absolute rule the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, his supporters (you know who you are), and the Democrat controlled US Senate, are seemingly too ignorant to comprehend.

What is really scary is that it is not ignorance on the part of the Senate but a sinister plot to make the entire country dependednt on them.

What about the others mentioned? The DiTP (dictator in training pants)? Do you think his motive is forced dependency, perhaps by crashing capitalism? His actions, and inactions, have consistent appeal to roughly 20% of the US population, the group that lives for social reengineering, unable to recognize the repeated failure, along with the absence of ANY success, of social statism. It ALWAYS kills the goose laying the golden egg. And then, the sustained supporters, another 20%. What on earth could motivate them to defend this hater of the US middle class? Leadership? Haven't seen it. Integrity? MIA. Intelligence? Results? Vision? Non teleprompted communication skills? Empathy? Is it white guilt? Blind party loyalty? Ahh, maybe he makes their legs tingle.

I think this is going to be written down in history as bad for this Pretender in Chief but, worse for us.

We, the people, know something is wrong.  We, the people, want to get moving on correcting the current doomed course of our great nation.

So, why are our elected representatives dallying, posturing, playing “penny-poker” inside the beltway, while the stakes are in the trillions and the best hand is currently being held by China?

Raise your hand - all of you who would go to a lone shark because you can’t pay your bills.

Right!  So, why is our “President” and Congress doing just that?  What happens when you tell the lone shark you can’t pay?

I think your response was excellent ... I did notice that shut-up Archie :) and he went back to his work since the housing market has rebonded so well thanks to obama's policies. Pretty bad numbers and about to get even worse. Definitely a double dip recession in housing. But even using your $709 billion ... this is the "allocated" cost of the war. not all of this cost was "incremental", we still would have been paying for much of the personnel, etc. Most of the bombs we used came out of inventory, already built and paid for. sure they spend to replace some. Just like anything the CBO does, they look at the cost they can assign to something ... when in reality maybe 30-50% was money they would have spent regardless.

I was hoping for a response defending our war on poverty, especially since we have the same levels of poverty after 30+ years and trillions of dollars.  At least we defeated the Iraq military and sent Saddam to his eternal reward with the money we spent on the war.......
