I got a Boat and Jet Ski Lift both or Doozie lifts. My problem is they pull the boat/ski up all the way. When they are empty they come all the way up. I was told by the boat lift store that the power(wire) was not heavy enough to pull the AMP. I has new ecel. ran to the boat house along with a breaker box. We went with #6 wire.
After all that they still want come all the way up. In face I don't think they are coming up anymore than before replacing the ecel.
Can anyone help.
Boat lift store said that the boat lift can lift 4000lbs my boat is 2800 and the jetski lift is 1000 and mine ski is 850.

If both have their own motors and work independently from one another I would tend to agree that it is a power issue. It could be a bad or "going bad" breaker not supplying enough amperage or many other things. I would suggest getting an electrician out to have a look at it to save yourself some time and energy. If you have a meter an also have an outlet near by, check the voltage.

Most systems are dual voltage. If you are wired for 120 change it over and wire both the control and the motor for 210. This will likely fix the problem.
You most likely have a long run to the boat lift and a corresponding voltage loss. That is probably what is causing the problem. If you know how to use a VOM you can check your voltage when the lift is dieing out. I suspect it will be low.

Agree with Kizma. I'm sure you have a three wire if you're using #6 wire so just wire in a 220 breaker, use the common for the second hot. Change over for motors will be under a small access panel at the back of each motor. Look up the motors on the web if you don't have instructions on change over to 220. I wire everything possible to 220--cuts your amperage draw in half.

I doubt 220 will work. Regardless of what voltage the motor is at it will still run with the same power. OSM is right that it will cut the amps down, but the motor will still provide the same power. You are right on the edge of your weight rating. You may need a bigger motor. #6 cable will provide up to 60 amps. The upsizing of the wire was bs. You could probably run the motor with #12 wire. What is the nameplate data on the motor.
HP rating?
The nameplate should read something like this:
220/120 VAC, 2/4.5 amps
If I read your post correctly you are trying to lift 4650 lbs with a 4000 lb lift

It is easy to tell if you check the voltage drop at the the motor at the point in time when it fails. I suspect it will drop to about 90v. The other possible problem is that if it is a belt drive that the belts are slipping.
A third posibility is that there are bushing that hold a central drive (lift) shaft. If the bushings are dry, that could be the problem.
If you are sitting there with a meter and can check the voltage and and the amp draw at the correct point in the cycle.

Does the motor humm when loaded up or just completely quits?Check your GFCI if it completely quits. If it is humming and not doing anything it could be a number of things. A start capacitor if equiped, undersized feeder wire, motor going bad. Alot of times there is big feeder wire comming to motor, but then one has to put a 15 or 20 amp duplex outlet at the motor to whereas it can be plugged in and utilize the inline gfi . If that is your case, the receptacle may be choking your amp draw.

Don't forget to include the weight of the lift and accessories (bimini, railings, life-jackets, skis, etc) when calculating the load. Just Guessing here,
2800 lb boat + 1000 lb jetski + 500 lb lift + 200 lb of accessories = 4500lb
I think you are beyond the limit of the lift.

First is to be sure it's not just your belt slipping. I have similar lifts with heavier loads than you listed and have not problem running the motors at 120V. However, I have had a slipping belt before. Good luck!
