An interesting perspective in this morning's Washington Post

That's about as plainly as I have seen the situation presented.  I was a bit surprised about the comment thet Ryan's plan would eventually gut defense.  This from the Washington Post - not exactly a hotbed for conservative activism - is especially danming.

And he is so right about the pushback from the entitled ones when those entitlements are threatened -- just look at Wisconsin.  What might happen if a less disciplined groups' entitlements become threatened?  I shudder to think about it.

The mortgage interest deduction keeps popping up....that one would be a really tough nut to crack.  That deduction weighs very heavily when we decide how much house to buy, and any substantial change would probably have a very detrimental effect on the housing industry.  I suspect that reducing or eliminating it would have an overall negative effect on revenues because of the negative impact on the economy.

Thanks for sharing the article.

de Toucqueville said the greatest threat to democratic governments was the realization by the people that could vote themselves access to the public treasury.

Mortgage Interest Deduction – Bearable pain now, for us – excruciatingly unbearable pain for our offspring.

Fair Tax – EVERYBODY pays.  Eliminates ALL deductions.  No hidden sweet-heart deals.  Eliminates most of the IRS and ALL of its abusiveness.  Eliminates off-shore tax havens.  Rewards productivity and investment.

Rioting - sooner or later, there will be rioting by the entitled class.  Bring it on NOW while I am still alive to tell them what I think of them.

That's why I keep the personal Armory and Magazine well stocked.

When a liberal cannot explain why they voted for Democrats, give them this list.  They can then pick their reasons from this "TOP 12"

1. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene, but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

2. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

3. I voted Democrat because Freedom of Speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

4. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

5. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

6. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about millions of babies being aborted so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

7. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.

8. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the Democrats see fit.

9. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

10. I voted Democrat because I think that it's better to pay billions to people who hate us for their oil, but not drill our own because it might upset some endangered beetle or gopher.

11. I voted Democrat because while we live in the greatest, most wonderful country in the world, I was promised "HOPE AND CHANGE".

12. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my backside, it's unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

Big numbers, yet the percentages are misleading, me thinks intentionally. SS and Medicare recipients are likely one and the same, as are the housing subsidy/medicaid folks. Food stamps may well cross over all of the above, with the number of stand alone beneficiaries far lower.

The elephants in the room are

· Social Security

· Medicare

· Interest on the national debt

If we are not addressing those issues now, we are exacerbating the problem.

Failure to do so makes “death panels” unavoidable… they might not be called that… but, the effect being the same - we will still discard the sick and the elderly… a class of people most of us are about to join.  We will be forcing our offspring to be creative in the way they deal with the expense and inconvenience of having us doddering, drooling coots around.

Major, the regressives, and the press have an agenda with convincing us that 48% of the population is on the receiving end of taxpayer provided benefits. It helps to instil a sense of hopelessness in the remaining 52%. My point is that although numbers participating is high, many are receiving multiple benefits of various taxpayer financed programs and the actual participation percentage is far less than reported.

Yes… and when any military retiree (me) or wounded veteran goes onto social security, they are on multiple taxpayer funded programs.
