I am certain I would have lost civility at this gross, flagrant disregard for her privacy and her innocence.
What in the H3LL is going on in this country? Have we lost all sense of propriety? Why do we put up with this obvious violation of our ( esp. children’s’) 4th Amendment rights?

The TSA lady was being very careful to tell the girl what she was doing and performed what must have been a textbook exam, but how freaking ludicrous is it to have done it in the first place? It was extremely 0bvious from the girl's clothing that nothin could have been hidden.

Easy answer. I would profile men and women of middle eastern and northern African descent. I would subject each and every one of them to additional screening of their carry on and checked luggage including visual searches and screening for explosives and weapons. I would tell them to show up to the airport 3 hours before their flight and apologize for the inconvenience but until Islamofascists stop trying to do us harm they will have to suffer. I would NOT pat down 6 year old girls, 89 year old Grandmothers or middle aged businessmen unless and until these type of people start blowing up airplanes.

The Israelis don’t do this meaningless ritual. They…OMG!... PROFILE. They are good at it. Because, as the supreme great Satan (target) they have NEVER been hit. But, you can bet, if they do find a threat, somebody gets hit.

Profiling is the answer. But not just race, although that should be the largest factor, but also by watching actions of people on monitors and hand picking out those to do pat down scans. That is what they do in Isreal and it works great. Their is behaviors that is observable that easily tips off who to scan. It requires far less people, faster lines ... trained security people sit and watch monitors of the people in line and can zoom in om them and convey to the security who to pull.

I agree Hound and I don't think anyone should be upset with her for doing her job as it is described to her. I have run into probably hundreds of TSA agents over the years and the vast majority are pleasant and professional although there are some exceptions. They are mostly just trying to do the job they were hired to do in the way they were directed. This is a failure of their leadership.

I've been through the Israeli airport several times. Their agents are authorized to pull anyone out of line that they don't like the looks of. They don't fool around. They do 100% luggage check. You complain, you don't get on the plane. They take security very seriously. We were told that even the US Embassy can't help you if you get in trouble with airport security.
In comparing the two, I'll take our TSA screening any day.

We need to adopt the no-nonsense Israeli method. They use Probable Cause! If you get pulled it’s because you failed the profile. I doubt I would fail their profile. If I did, then they can search. But, I doubt a six year old girl would be groped by the Israelis.

I'm good with scanners too. I mean, who really cares.
With regard to Israel, I do know their airport security falls under their intelligence branch. I'm sure they do profile, but that's not the only thing. Of course, if you have any Muslim countries stamped in your passport, you're not going into Israel. (I had to get a new passport just to use for Israel.)

....and I took the family to Cayman Islands for vacation last year. My 5 year old grandson was "chosen" at random for body search. Blue eyes, freckles. MY son, his father, was OK with it... and TSA was very sensitive about the "pat down".
Took my 85+YO MOL to airport today for trip. She has black cloud over her head for pat down. Because of her "new" hips. She looks as much like someone who would have a bomb, shoe, underwear, or the next thing that will come along and then we will all have to be subjected to another search, as a dog.
Such a joke to not profile.
