United States Coast Guard Auxiliary 8-12 Operations will begin this summer around July 1st to serve the Lake Martin community. Home port will be at Chucks Marina and operations will include boater safety patrols, disabled vessel tow, vessel examination checks at ramps, and environmental audits for vessels with on board waste holding tanks. We will assist the Alabama Marine Police to ensure safe boating practices for everyone on Lake Martin. As soon as operations begin we'll let you know. It's possible that we are able to get on the water prior to July 1, but that is our target date for the summer.

Going into the Bama Park slough - look past the luxury RV's - his is the thing that looks like a plastic playhouse to the West. It has the shortest dock on the lake and he has a PWC and a paddle boat tied up - the only boats that he can drive and still see over the dash.

Welcome aboard! Any help we can get is appreciated. Unfortunate that one of the solutions to the current budget problem involves whacking an already understaffed group which actually produces results.

Examinations and audits to assist the MP on LM?
We will be doing vessel examinations with certification and detailing to the vessel owner what he/she must do to bring the unit up to standard.
Can the USCGA exercise any of the authority of the MP?
We are not authorized by the federal/state government with arresting powers. However, we will be in constant contact with Marine Police on Lake Martin and will be assisting them in the areas of safety, towing, and emergency response. This will enable the depleted resources a chance to focus on law enforcement on the lake during the holidays when the lake is at it's busiest.
While patrolling the lake, are your craft recognizable as USCGA?
Yes. Our facility carries the USCG AUX Ensign and the vessel will be identified as such.
Is there a means to contact you in case of emergency on the water?
Yes. Once the facility is ready for the water, a list of contact numbers along with dates of patrol will be posted on this website. My number is 334-740-1267.
