I've been keeping this course up for 10+ years after a handicap skier, Steve Hodges donated it.
During the last 2 weeks someone cut 30 buoys.  This is a pain to fix, costly to say the least, but could be a safety hazard.
Please keep an eye out for anyone destroying the course.  It is enjoyed by many, serves the local boating community and challenges the experienced skier.  Please help keep it safe and let me know if you see anyone messing with it.
thanks and best wishes,
George Amonette

I wonder if there is a way to set up a low cost photographic system that could catch the offender... sorry to hear you are having problems.

Don't know the area but if there are homes near by I would suspect it's one of them. I would imagine some people don't care do have constant wave action battering their shoreline.

I'll trade you several ski boats and skiers an hour for one wakeboard boat...

When did they get cut? I was there this weekend and it was fine. I assume you must have repaired it. I doubt it was from nearby homeowners as there are none in the area of the slalom. I would more suspect fisherman maybe? Alternatively it could be obnoxious teens. Either way I will be on the lookout. Thanks for your work on this George. We enjoy running through there on occasion and watch our kids try to slalom the course.

i agree about the fishermen and I point a finger in that direction every time the subject of this particular course comes up. they become infuriated if they are fishing near there, and a skier uses the course. i can see the shoreline (not the actual buoys) from my dock ...haven't seen anything odd... i'll keep a look out!

OT we sure would appreciate your help.  We are respectful and courteous boaters who enjoy the challenge of the course.  We have taught numerous kids the joy of skiing and try to instill in them the love and respect of our beautiful lake.  Mike Davis

It's great to hear that there are people who still ski. I thought it was a far gone sport, taken over by wakeboarders and tubers. I used to ski a little competition back in the mid/late 70's (tricks mostly). You hardly ever see anyone teaching younguns how to ski, kudos to you sir!

fishermen was my gut feeling too...many are great guys (I enjoy fishing too), but there are a still some that think this is their lake and every one else can go to hEll.

Where is Smith's Landing? I'll check my map when I get a chance. Always looking for a nice slalom course to run.

It's on the East side of the lake, west of Hwy 49 just north of SR 34. It's east of Smith Mountain in the next body of water which is the body of water north of the Military park/Civitian park where all the damage was.  It's a public ramp
and should be on most maps.
Good luck.
