I've heard several forum members discuss this before but, I never could really understand it til today. Had to put my 4 pound, 15 year old Yorkie down this morning. And yes, for all you macho guys, yes, I cried like a baby. I never wanted another dog after my lab died but, my wife tricked me into this Yorkie. After the novelty wore off, the kids ignored him and he became my companion for 15 years. What an awful Memorial Day weekend. Hope y'all's was great.

(((hug))) It is an awful day when you have to make that decision and say good bye. No shame in the tears -- Feb and I have cried every time.

Unfortunately, my wife any I known how you feel. Those of us who have loved a pet, know that they are family too, and would go to great lengths to protect them. Maizy is five now, and I dread when her time comes.....

Yes it surely is a sad day.  I hold onto the thought that the heartache will pass, and the many fond, fun, loving memories will continue to enrich my life.  Hope it does the same for all who lose their furry loved ones.

Lamont, sorry to hear of your loss. It is hard for some to understand how a simple pet can leave such a huge hole in your heart, but, losing one does, and we feel for you.

Yup sad, but the memories more than compensate..  Last one I lost, "Daisy May" showed up on my doorstep 24 hours after I had to terminate a 12 year love affair with "Heidi Maggie" a beautiful gorden Setter..  Daisy was dumped off by her owner at the far end of Pace Point, found me and and won my heart immediately..  Half hound, part lab, she  had faint hound smell, nevertheless a house and truck dog. She loved kids and her adopted owner..  So tear up, Pal, I am now, but tears of wonderful memories..

It's a normal feeling. I had to put my Giant Schnauzer down and he was still a buff powerful fella at 11 years. Went through H3ll for 6 months and finally stumped AU as to the cause. After autopsy it was cancer of the endocrine system. Something very weird. I still miss him. I went in and kissed him goodby as they put him to sleep..... It broke my heart.

that commented. Still feeling the pain today but, if any of you have to go through this process in the future, I have a great Vet to recommend. Very compassionate, great "bedside manner" and has a truly Humane way of sending your pet to greener pastures.

I almost lost my Cocker (Toby) a few months ago when his kidneys stopped working after we had him fixed. I cried so hard that I could not talk to my wife on the phone. It was really rough when my wife accidently ran over our other Cocker (April) a few years ago. The only time she (April) did not groan with pain was when I would put my face next to her's. I heard men cry more easily when they get older. I believe it. Houseboat

Your last sentence. Had a conversation with my best buddy today and he said your exact words. I don't know if it's age or just the fact that the crappier things tend to happen later in life when the guy upstairs feels you are more equipped to handle the bad stuff.

So sorry to hear that.  We also had to put our beloved "Wassee" down about a month ago.  Cancer, and her lungs were filling with fluid.  We found her on vacation in the Smokies, probably dumped and she was the best girl ever. Our
sympathies.
