Can any one recommend a dehumidifier for my whole house AC unit, not a portable one, one that is installed on the AC unit itself.. I have an Lg in the downstairs and it is not doing the job. My humidity is up to 65% and i am worried about mold growing, and it is not comfortable unless the AC is running.

LL............not an expert but, have worked around the issue some years ago................if you want a whole house unit you probably need to go with your HVAC contractor. Based on your comment, sounds like you do not run your a/c unit all the time down stairs.............running the a/c IS part of the solution of getting humidity out of an area. Do you have a seperate a/c unit for downstairs? If the unit does run now, it could be oversized and therefore does not run enough to remove the humidity. These kind of issues will probably be best addressed by a competent HVAC contractor who can check these things out.

Moisture is bad. Don't remember the season (Fall?), but our place was unused for maybe 6 weeks running. Lots of rain during that time, heavy rain. I made the mistake of leaving the HVAC off completely. Bad move, bad, bad. Never again.
We found mold/mildew had started on wood floors, mini blinds, etc, etc. 3 solid days of rubber gloves, bleach cleaners and hands and knees.
Keep AC/Heat set to move at least some air 24/7 all seasons.

I had a similar humidity problem and did considerable research. The problem is that humidity can build even when the house is at a comfortable temperature and also in the winter. I went with the Aprilaire 1770 whole house dehumidifier. This unit can be ducted into a hvac system or run as a stand alone. In my situation, it works fine as a stand alone in the crawl space. If your area is open, this would probably also be the case. I talked to the Aprilaire tech support folks at length about sizing and ducting and this is what they recommended for the best value. The unit is great and completely automatic. It samples air on a regular basis, and if the humidity is above the desired level it runs....if not, it shuts off. This time of year, it runs a lot and there is a constant trickle of water piped outside. It makes the house much more comfortable working in conjunction with the heat pump.  It is easy to install if you don't duct it in (just level it up and have a draining system). Instructions for ducting it into hvac are provided and this would also be fairly easy (but it requires some extra materials). Warranty is also very good. I Looked at several units, and like this the best in the price range I was considering.

are you using it to dehumidify the air in your home or in your crawl space?

It does both. Even with a moisture barrier on the crawl space floor, some moisture seeps in and then rises through the house. By running a dehumidifier in the crawl space, the humidly in the house is also greatly reduced (crawl space should be sealed up, not vented).  In most cases, excessive moisture problems are caused from moisture seeping in from the ground or below grade walls. If proper precautions are used when building, much of this can be alleviated but most builders don't take the extra time and cost to make sure it's done correctly. Even when things are done right, a high quality dehumidifier on the lower level will assist the AC system and hold moisture in check when AC isn't needed.

Thank you for the info. Did you use someone local or install your self? I want something that is independent of the AC coming on to keep the humidity down.

I did it myself (very easy). I had to run a dedicated 20A line for the 1770 unit, but I have electrical experience. If you get the 1750 or 1710, you can use an existing outlet. All of these units are available online at a reduced price from what you will pay a contractor.
