and got some responses (see a post below in the list). So we decided to give it a shot this past Saturday night. 9 of us to be exact (KA we did have some extras at the cabin). So it started off bad....waited about 15min for a drink order. Got the drinks...7 of them. Other 2 had to literally go inside to the bar and tell the bartender what they needed. We order. 45 minutes later food comes out.....again for 7 of us. Other two had to get the hostess to come over and tell her theirs was missing becasue the waittress is no where to be found. Ironic it was the same two that did not get their drinks. So there an hour already. Finally the other two plates come. I had a simple chicken sandwich with a baked potato and added a salad. Chicken breast was tough as nails and barely covered the bun....poor fella couldn't have been but a few months old when they took him. Baked potato was the size of a baseball...literally a ball. The salad was huge...except it only had lettuce and a ton of cheese with one tomato wedge. So we finish and the waitress is no where to be found....AGAIN. Had to go looking and found her over in the corner chit chatting with some other waitresses. Checks come....wrong items on each check. Total time there 2:45. While we were in no hurry we simply went to eat...not a eat and hang out to drink. Very disappointed. what is it with that place. Nothing ever seems to be done right no matter who takes ownership. SUCKED!

hate to hear that. It is a great "lakelooking" spot. based on your experience, I would not go back. We were there 2 weeks ago on a Saturday night. The crowd was pretty large, three of us. All order prepared well, on time and good service. Luck of the draw I suppose, but I will return UNTIL I get your experience.

I kept out of the fray earlier because we too had a horrid experience there and didn't want to pre-dispose your expectations...took forever to get drinks, even longer to get food...I even approached a gent at the outside bar - who confirmed that he was an owner - with a complaint about the lousy service and his reaction was basically to turn around and continue his conversation with the person next to him.  Was tempted to try again this year but, after seeing this, believe I'd rather get in the car and ride up 259 to AC and have great food and outstanding service at La Posada (they were slammed Friday night).

Really too bad too, as the physical location and surroundings at HD are much more relaxed and lake-like than their competition at the bridge.  But there needs to be more than just atmosphere.

Like I said, go for a burger at lunch.... normally not a bad experience. If you go for Dinner/ Supper... you have been forewarned.

Lunch time we like to throw some Conecuh sausage on the grill, then slap it on a bun with any or all of mustard, catsup, chili, cheese, onions and relish.  Hard to beat, especially after a hard morning framing that new cabin addition (actually hard to beat just about any time)!

waitresses are really ???????- I may have gotten the same one that you encountered- someone asked if they made their tartar sauce or served the commercially packaged type - her answer was " I know it's kind of whiteish"-- we all just rolled our eyes and hunkered down

Conecah,(sp?), sausage is Da Bomb. Discovered it about 3 years ago. My children love it and think that how I cook it is the secret. Little do they know..... you can't screw it up. Juust warm it up on the Weber with Hickory chips. Awesome with any kind of Mustard, regular or spicey. OK, OK, I am waiting to hear how good it is with Mike Elliotts Bar-be-que sauce.

If they ever stop making it, my whole family is in withdrawal.
Sream/brown it a little in a skillet, slit lengthwise and lay it inside a biscuit with a dash of mustard.

Unless you are specifically in the mood for pizza, there is no better lunch place on the lake. For some reason, they just haven't been able to figure out how to do dinner properly. I don't know if the problem is not enough staff or just a poorly trained staff, though I suspect it's a combination. Too bad, because their inability to handle a successful dinner will likely cause us to lose a great lunch place.
