I keep reading great reviews on La Posada. We eat Mexican weekly, and know all the good spots in Bham and Atlanta and other spots. Don't shoot, but, I have now tried it 3 times and service was excellent, atmosphere typical and food was average, at best.
I have skipped around on the menu, but maybe they have certain dishes that are really good? I will continue to go periodically to have my fix when at the lake, but just not getting the high reviews.

Agree Lamont...especially when on the northwest side of the lake the options are so few, sometimes plain ole decent food gets rave reviews. Went to JR's Thursday night...had been a while...now I remember why it had been a while...

Hmmmm....maybe I confused the food with the Margarita. In the States - much like Italian food, it is tough to get real Mexican food rather than Tex-Mex or the American version of Mexican food.
Unless you want to go to Pizza Hut, Zaxby's, or another of the chains you can get anywhere, our options in AC are limited and sometimes we get a little excited when we find something decent. I do think their Margaritas are a bit overpriced in the evening...mediums are two bux higher than in Montgomery.

Personally, I find the food a little bland, and a lacking in creativity. But, as others have said, it is always decent and the service is good. There is another Mexican restaurant in downtown Alex City that started out well, but has, IMHO, gone significantly down hill. I haven't had anything I would consider "great" Mexican -- but then I'm probably one of those people that prefer "Tex-Mex" or Southwestern cooking. Sometimes I wonder if I really like true "Mexican" at all.

Guys, thanks for not shooting at me...G. I, in no way, wanted to jump on La Posada, just wondered if I was ordering the wrong things. I totally agree with the comments that it may just be the "best alternative" as opposed to outstanding.
The service is excellent---which matters a lot. As I said, I will continue to go...got to address my addiction some day, and appreciate the comments. I will enjoy it for what it is, a good place with exceptional service.

Okay Lakeguy... What are you favorites in Birmingham and Atlanta for Mexican food? I agree that L P is not GREAT but Good for Alexander City or should I say the best Mex. in Alex City.

You have it right. They are smart enough to know their market. Mex in the big city will not fly here. I'm thankful its here and hope they make it.
Heck I tried to find a Mexican grocery in Auburn and was greeted with big eyes and a question mark.

Service is excellent as everyone else said. I do wish they would add chile verde to the menu, as it's my favorite. Outside of that I've got no complaints.

In bham--superior grill, la Paz, and ixtapa.....
All are Tex Mex.

I'll put in a plug for Ranchito Morin in Eclectic. Great service and great chile verde. They actually have a number of authentic Mexican menu items, way beyond the old taco and burrito stuff.
Ask for Arnaldo Sanchez. He's the woner and would be glad to explain some of the less familiar options.

All of the Mexican restaurants around here, seem to buy pre-made entrees from the same supplier. I may be wrong, but it dang sure tastes the same in all of the towns that are within 50 miles of the lake.

superior and ixtapa are my favorites too!!! i love the soup and rice served before your meal at Superior Grill!

I also like eating there. The king burrito (steak) topped with verde sauce is my favorite. I always ask them to spice it up a little more than normal (I like it hot) and they are happy to oblige.....better go real hungry if you order that one.

This reply is not aimed at you, just the subject at large.
Not making excuses. I live here full time. But to compare our restaurants to other areas is apples and oranges. Remember, we have a very short main season. That means that owners face having to double, triple staff from winter to summer. That is a huge factor. Bringing people in prior to main season to get them trained while the income at that time does not justify it. My hats off to every restaurnt owner who can juggle this and stay in business.
I really get chaffed at the people who complain about the pricing. Frankly, I think every restaurnt ought to increase their prices about 15% for summer vs winter. Again, they got about 12 weeks to make the bulk of their profits for the entire year.
I am thankful for the ones we do have. Lake Martin is a unique place, and our restaurants are part of that uniqueness that I appreciate. I know one day we will have some form of entertainment that will alter the face of our lake to more of a year round environment. Till that time, I will treasure our swings from the peaceful relaxing in the late fall, winter, early spring to the bustle of the summer months.
