Subject:   Fishing the underwater lights!!!!!!!!!!
Date:   7/27/2011 12:29:31 AM

Thursday night, 7-21-2011, myself and a friend of mine, fished the lake at night for the first time. We were headed towards Chucks Marina, and saw a few lights to our right. We decided to continue towards Chucks and work our way back.
The last point on the right, facing Chucks is where we started fishing. Before we could make the first cast, The owner comes out of his house walks out to the end of the pier and cuts the light off!!!  Ok, it's his light, no problem. My partner begins to make a few casts where the light was,and this guy goes and gets a flashlight, comes back, and shines it directly in my face!!

He does this for 10 minutes or so,I just sit there, thinking what a JERK he is.   I had a Q Beam at my feet and wanted to light him up, but didn't want to stoop to his level. So we moved on. Nothing was ever said to each other, but I wanted to give him a mouthfull. Not for turning the light off, but standing there shining a light in my face.  Why does one have to be an  A_ _?
The next light we go to,as we approach, the owner is sitting at the end of his pier. I didn't see him until the last minute.I tell him sorry sir, I didn't see you,we'll move own. He responses,Their is some good sized fish here.I asked, you don't mind us fishing? Not at all. We catch and release a fish, and he starts to leave,I spoke and said, Sir thanks for letting us fish your light, no problem he says.  Moral of the story,  It's Hot during the day, first time ever to fish Martin at night,Not looking to impose on nobody, make nobody mad, just catch and release a few fish, and enjoy life.
THANKS TO THE OWNERS WHO PUT OUT THE LIGHTS AND DON'T MIND LETTING PEOPLE FISH THEM!!! AND TO THE JERK THAT SHINES HIS LIGHT IN SOMEONES FACE AFTER TURNING HIS LIGHT OFF, GET A LIFE,AND WHY BOTHER PUTTING THE THING OUT AND TURNING IT ON IF YOU ARE GOING TO ACT THAT WAY.. Thanks

I would have said something to him. He was interfering with your fishing. I might have suggested to him my most favored place for him to place his light. It would have been quite appropriate for you to spot him.

You did just right. He was acting like a jerk.  I've had a number of people come up to my pier to fish.  Even suggeted to them some of the better spots around.  We don't "own" anything beyond the 490 mark.
Glad you didn't let that get to you.  Lifes too short, fishing time too precious to let a fool ruin your day.

On more than one occasion I have had encounters with people while fishing their  dock. Not doing anything wrong ,just fishing.Every single time it got pretty nasty,so I have just about stopped fishing docks. What these people don't realize, people in boats carry protection also, so it could get real nasty, real fast. But, on another hand one dock owner was telling us he had some stuff vandalized and stolen one night . So from that point of view I can see where someone would come out being pissed at someone around their boats and piers at 10 pm or later at night. Does that make it justifyable, for someone to come out and be nasty to honest fishermen trying to enjoy their hobby? No it does not. So where is there a compromise between dock owner and fishermen. Those fish do not belong to him or the fishermen, neither does the water,up to 10 feet or further on his property, that belongs to power company the way I understand it..That doesn't mean that I'm gonna get on his property at waters edge and fish because what is right is right and wrong is wrong. Just saying !! I do alot of my fishing in the winter time and that is a great time of year to fish. Not many people out and about around or on the water. I don't know what the solution might be, if someone knows, do tell.

Two sides to most stories.
I have submerged structure around my slough as well as subdued lights around my floating dock. I put it there to attract FISH. I enjoy watching fishermen come up, day or night, and catch them. Even give them directions to the structure.
The water is not mine, nor are the fish. As long as the fishermen behave themselves,,, Fish On.
However, there are situations where a wayward RattleTrapp ends up tangled in a Bimini top or a boat cushion at dockside, and that is a different story. I suspect it doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Handled as a gentleman by both parties,, no problem.
Folks these days just cannot seem to relax and enjoy our wonderful Lake Martin. They just gotta' bitch about something. You just happened to be fishing off his dock, right after his wife burned his dinner, denied him sex, and sent him to the dock to reconsider buying her a new diamond ring. He brought the flashlight along to pinpoint the exact spot where he was gonna' slash his wrists.

Agree to two sides.  I'm on the other end of the lake and you're welcome to fish my underwarer light.  Don't tell anybody, but I also have a feeder that goes off at 5:30am & 8:00pm.  On the other hand, I hate it when somebody snags the power cord and drags the light 20 yards out.  Also had a neighbor that had one of those expensive floating trampolines that caught a hook.  That said, anybody that wants to fish my light is welcome.

Thanks for all the responses!! And thanks to everyone that don't mind us fishermen fishing the lights.
I 'm from Opelika, and have not freshwater fished that much in the last few years. I got bit by the saltwater bug a few years back. But in the last year, and after the oil spill I sold the Cape Horn offshore boat. And with gas prices, and fish limits, {2 red snapper} it was the thing to do. Used to fish the bay at night alot for specks and reds, which was alot of fun.

Fishin these green underwater lights, remind me alot of that.I love to see and cast to a fish, also it's cool, temp.wise, and most every body is off the lake. Very peacefull fishing. My plans are in the next few weeks is to start around midnight, fishing the lights with some spot-tail minnows. If you happen to see me,I'll be in a 19' Carolina Skiff with a 40 hp 4 stroke yamaha tiller on back, stop and give me a hollar.  Thanks All.

P.S.   To anyone that fishes for stripes, I have a manual Cannon downrigger that was used one time several years ago, that I'd sell cheap to someone. It comes with the base, clips, weight, etc   e mail me   @    fishinwhits@hotmail.com

Fishinwhits.............got one of those lights at my place on Blue Creek and it is fished often and it does not bother me. Agree, the guy acted like a jerk and commend you for handling it the way you did.
The other side of my story is...........I've had to retrieve mine and replace the weights 5 times now in a 3 year period of time. I guess someone is dragging their lures on the bottom and pulling the line up. Don't know what can be done except just quit fixing it whan I get tired of it. Until then try not to drag across where the line likely would come from. Continued good fishing.
