We are in the area around Sunset Point / Stillwaters, and with the new Stoneview Summit putting in an additional 58 slips, our cove/slough probably has 150 or more slips!  What, if anyone has done this before, is required to get a No Wake buoy permitted and installed?  We are willing to do all the footwork necessary to get this area controlled, as we now have more traffic that some marinas on the lake.
Thanks in advance.

I know of several instances where folks have failed in a "no wake" adventure......actually, I know of no examples of success by individuals or even small community efforts.

Move one under cover of darkness.   It is about the only way you can get one.

Try to find one that does not have a number on it.

It also does not need to be one that is close by.

You should try the slew where the dock for Catherine's store is located.  They have about half a mile marked as no wake.  It was that way before the store dock got there.  I know some of them have been moved but there are still plenty left.

Install gas pumps.

Been there done that, You have to have public gas pumps, public boat ramps, or prove multiple boating accidents in the area to get the No Wake Buoy. Or donate a large amount of money to any Ben Russel foundation, and one just magically appears. Your tax dollars at work to the highest bidder.

It is rather interesting how some folks with limited water frontage supposedly can not even get a boat dock. Then we have have developments providing boat docks for lots with zero water frontage (therefore: water access). This is what causes the problem you are illustrating. The same can be said about condos and places like Eagle's Point and Bolton Cove. I remember a few years back when Al Power was hyping the rule of thumb was 100 ft. of water frontage minimum for a single boat dock (even an article about it in "The Lake Martin Living" magazine). This baby sure has gone out the window with the bath water. It seems developers are having problems selling the above type places, and it will be even worse if the potential buyers have to keep their boat toys at a marina. All of us with boat docks would love to have a no-wake area. The solution is a blanket no-wake zone within a stipulated distance from the shoreline. This was attempted a few years back, but I understand the bass fishing groupies had too much pull or anti-influence for passing a no wake zone within 50 ft of the shore line. Bass fishermen have to fish close to the bank or in narrow channels and as we all know, they have to set the water on fire from Point A to point B. or they will not have the time to cactch the biggest and the most. The hypocrisy rules.

I thought the rule was 50' of shoreline.
In Stoneview's case they were permitted such docks and the boardwalk (that was a mistake back then, as the total footage should not have allowed the boardwalk also).  They did install 30 of the 85  docks. Permit expired. Had to get a new permit. This permit required removal of the boardwalk, and shortened docks from 1/3 across slough to current standard of 1/4 way.
Rather amusing to me how it was ok to get your assoc docks,  but now it is just too much.
As I understand No Wake, there has to be a general boating public safety need to get a No Wake zone.  It is not to protect the boats in someones dock.

I'll chime in since I haven't mentioned this yet this year...but I do wonder why those of us who are paying the taxes to live on this lake are subjected to the unseemly behaviors of those who use the lake (many without paying a cent).  I do realize also that by the time any legal action could be taken against those who are ruining the lake experience for the home owners the whole issue might be moot anyway, since gas may become unreachable, and fresh water a more appropriately valued resource.  I keep in mind the fact that these hundreds of boats with their wakeboard etc were not here 100 years ago, and I highly doubt they will be here 100 years from now.  I know most of you will adamantly disagree.  But remember, I'm the one that said your house is worth about what it was 10 years ago and y'all said I was crazy.

Sagetek, I completely agree. I hope we don't have to wait until someone gets seriously injured before we get buoys in some of these areas. Most people in the slough you are talking about are afraid to let their kids swim in the lake because of the number of boats and careless boaters. (Stonebroke Summitt mostly) When people swing their kids around in a small slough on tubes (barely missing docks) it makes me cringe big time. If not buoys, maybe a closer watch on reckless driving and giving tickets. Buoys would be a heck of a lot better, though.

Please note, my original post never said it was wrong to add the additional docks at Stoneview Summit, as we have ours too.  I just mentioned now there needs to be a No Wake buoy that will slow everyone down, me included, equally.

I filled out the proper paper work for a No Wake Buoy to help protect ~60 boats and swimmers from the piers. Sent it to Montgomery and received no reply. Called the local MP station and was told I wasted my time. You have meet the the criteria, public boat launch, pump gas, or the area has had multiple boating accidents. I offered to purchase the Buoys and pay what ever cost was involved in having the LMRA install them. The answer was still NO!

Build a lift and swim close to shore. then you won't need "NO WAKE ZONE" Everybody who has a dock would want a "NO WAKE ZONE" at his/her dock if they let you apply and get one, because it is cheaper than building a lift.

Nah, I don't think your mom wears combat boots. A little sophomoric of you to say though. Sometimes without any facts, you make profound statements and have no idea what you are talking about. Guess your name, at least the last word works well for you. Why not just anuice or maybe anus as you are intelligently disguising? Geez!!

Could you give some examples that support your statement? "Sometimes without any facts, you make profound statements and have no idea what you are talking about"
