What is NOE for local fighter jet training?

Or maybe I should ask how low are they allowed to fly while training?

Unless they can go to 0 AGL, they would have a hard time landing...

I assume you mean low flying.  Below is an excerpt from the FAR's (Federal Aviation Regulation's). Rural areas and many areas around the lake fall under (c), and 500 feet looks real close when you see a jet moving fast...most military training is done above 1000' and even that looks a lot closer than it really is.

Sec. 91.119 — Minimum safe altitudes: General.

Except when necessary for takeoff or landing, no person may operate an aircraft below the following altitudes:

(a) Anywhere. An altitude allowing, if a power unit fails, an emergency landing without undue hazard to persons or property on the surface.

(b) Over congested areas. Over any congested area of a city, town, or settlement, or over any open air assembly of persons, an altitude of 1,000 feet above the highest obstacle within a horizontal radius of 2,000 feet of the aircraft.

(c) Over other than congested areas. An altitude of 500 feet above the surface, except over open water or sparsely populated areas. In those cases, the aircraft may not be operated closer than 500 feet to any person, vessel, vehicle, or structure.

While casting, did you loose a lure and all your line within a split second? Hope it did not break your rod or lift you out of your seat and take you freshwater surfing.

What McGill said is correct except that this is military you're talking about. They don't have to comply with part 91. However, in most cases, they do. There are multiple low altitude training routes over central and south Alabama. Specifically, you're probably looking at vr1052 northeast bound and vr1056 southwest bound. I couldn't find the altitude limits just in the brief time I looked but Bruce can probably find it for you. It's usually surface to 5000 feet or something like that. Enjoy the show. Peace, <>< TC

Luckily I wasn't fishing! I was floating. The movie Topgun does not do them justice. They flew right over my head, all these years and that's a first. I was guessing 500'. We are in the back of Sandy, they first flew west of the fire tower north bound then east to west over Point Cloxton...and my head.

My neighbor who is full time asked me what it was so I gathered it doesn't happen often. We have cargo planes fly through our backyard at dusk on a regular basis so low they can look in the windows.
