Looks like the stock market really liked that campaign speech last night
|
and why wouldn't they ... what's not to like about another half trillion in wasteful spending. I love how he insists it will be paid for and congress should just pass it and not ask any questions ... but how it will be paid for is the committee of 12 need to figure that out.
What a nut job he is.
Not sure if any of you saw the recap of the focus groups that watched the speech ... they all gave him terrible marks. More of the same, not a real plan that will work.

I read yesterday on CNN where one of the largest pools of unemployenent is in the age group of 16 to 25. The unemployment rate is 25% and mainly because this group does not qualify for any type job to include the military. They are in the following categories too overweight, drug users, uneducated, suffering from mental disorders, criminal background and the list goes on. It almost appears a few of this group post regularly on this Forum. LOL
The article went on to say employers are having difficulty finding qualified applicants to hire. No one wants to hire any of the above category.
How do we blame this on the current administraton or even on the last administration?
It is so easy for us to point the finger at our Leaders, our schools, and others. The real problem is most likely based upon parents or lack there of.
I kind of agree in the fact a speach, a study, a panel or etc. is not going to cure the problem. I do not think it is because of our President or our former President. They did not breed or raise these misfits in society. This might be one of the few areas I can not blame Congress.
I think it might be best if we disect the problem prior to pointing fingers.

Great Question MrHodga. I wold like to think I know the answer, but I can not solve the problem even if I were correct.
I believe the hypothetical solution is Parenting of a larger majority of our population like it was when you and I were raised.
Just like you and I, the President of the USA can not solve an evolutional problem. He can and should encourage our leaders and our society to attempt to make amends. All we can hope for is an evolutional change in our society.
What are your thoughts?

My view is the problem is the decline of the family, which has been a 50 year project by the left. Lots of reasons like easy divorce, the radical homosexual agenda, moral relativism, secularism, contraception, abortion, the removal of God from the public square (gov't, schools, etc.), the welfare system, the government media, entertainment industry, etc.
The solution is probably as complex as the problem but I know for sure that a first step is the defense of the marriage as the union of one man and one woman. We also have to find a way to marginalize the agenda of the left in academia which is probably only going to be accomplished by mass opting out of the government school system (which is an unbelievably daunting task I know).
Basically what has to happen is for a majority of Americans to stand up for what is right. Whether that can happen is open to debate. But until then we will continue our slide toward decay.

Hmmm - where to start? I think Martini listed a lot of the things I agree with.
One of the biggest problems is the government making it easy to be irresponsible, and in some cases 9like payments increasing as the number of illegitimate children increases) the government encourages irresponsible behavior.
But the main problem is a lack of accountability for those irresponsible acts. Its time for "tough love", where we remove or reduce the financial attractiveness.
We also need to give our teachers more leeway in the classroom to insist on order and discipline. A lot of these kids grow up with no structure in their lives, and we need to remove, or at least change the rules about in-class discipline.
We also need to support movements like Common Ground Montgomery, where courageous families move into the ghetto and provide kids with the love, nurturing, and structure that is so lacking these days. I helped with their Christmas store (where they sell donated gifts at greatly reduced prices) and to see the way those kids respond to a safe, Christian, loving environment is remarkable.
I could go on and on, but the obvious answer starts with the home environment - until the parent(s) build an environment in the home of love, nurturing, and accountability for wayward acts, we will still have these problems. And all the welfare, WIC, food stamps, unemployment payments, and tax refunds for doing NOTHING won't change that.
I need a cup of coffee....

Behavior is a result of its consequences. As long as unacceptable or illegal behavior is rewarded by the government (now euphemistically called our “federal family”), that behavior will continue.
Simplistic point of view? Yes.
The culture of rewarded dependency has now become a lifestyle. We have found that we must constantly increase the size of the “safety net” because it is becoming home to the indolent ensnared therein… and they are breeding indiscriminately.
I say, if you want to have us give you money, you must do something to earn it… even if you are old or handicapped. If you are healthy… you WILL work… The government will give you a road or a park or a stream to keep clean. Any arrest for alcohol or drug abuse suspends you from welfare for six months.

The problem IMHO is that Americans simply do not have the stomach to take the necessary actions and then allow the consequences of these actions to play out. For example, even when directed at illegals like the new Alabama immigration laws, we have the churches suing the government along with the left. So if we cannot even take steps to address the financial welfare system for illegals how can one think that we can do so for legitimate citizens of our country entrenched in the welfare culture? In one state I am familiar with a single (can't be married) woman with 3 children can quality for $700 per month housing allowance, $900 per month food stamps, free school breakfast and lunch for kids, healthcare provided by medicaid (including dental and orthodontics for kids), Earned Income and child tax credits, among other misc. welfare benefits. Do the math. What possible incentive does this woman have for marrying one of the fathers of your children or for getting a job at or near minimum wage and without health benefits? Compared to a low wage job, welfare pays better overall. And could you eliminate these welfare benefits and remain steadfast in conviction that it is necessary in order to prevent the eventual demise of our culture and country? I think most could not. So the likely outcome is the problem will never improve significantly and definitely will never be solved. It is a problem that never existed prior to the modern welfare system.

We strayed far off the safety net path with the abolishment of poor farms and orphanages, the introduction of food stamps and housing subsidies, along with allowing a negative EITC. We have allowed the big guv types to redefine earned privilege into basic rights, without responsibility. We are more interested in preservation of self esteem than development of skill sets. We are collectively afraid of being identified by the same big guv types, and religious leaders, as insensitive, uncaring, and racist. Cultural subsets seem to be predisposed to the "it takes a village" mindset. It would be easy to adopt a bumper sticker mindset, for example, "if you can't feed them, don't breed them" or my personal favorite "work, hunt or die", and maybe those thoughts should provide the foundation for reworking entitlements such as food distribution centers vs food stamps with offsets for kids being fed breakfast and lunch at school, projects or poor farms vs section 8 vouchers, orphanages vs grandma paid for fostering her gran chirrens with no extra benefit for the babies momma, limited health stamps vs medicaid, drug testing for ALL receiving taxpayer benefit, except SS retirement and Medicare, mandatory birth control for mothers receiving benefits, and EITC can only go to $0, not result in a negative payment (in itself a savings of $78 billion over 2010), and benefits provided to US citizens and legal immigrants only, elimination of affirmative action and contractual set asides, with troubled schools offering only the educational basics excluding EVERYTHING beyond reading, writing, arithmetic, sciences and discipline. Today, we reward people for answering their booty calls by assuming full responsibility for the outcomes, this while being forced to place the needs of our own families further down the list. We tolerate classroom disruption in public education, we tolerate lower educational standards for the purpose of mainstreaming, we tolerate poor school performance, we tolerate a "balanced curriculum" featuring revisionist histories and crimes against nature, and later, we tolerate poor workplace performance because we live in fear of the alphabets, DoL, DoEd, EEOC, USDA etc.

I have enjoyed reading your post and definitely agree.
I have a small part time business and I am amazed how very few people young or old come by to ask if they can work.
I remember a few years ago a couple of teen boys from our church came and asked if they could cut my grass with my riding mower. I told them no, that I enjoyed doing it myself but that I had some new-ground that they could clear for me. They said no thanks and left.
