Well the Wash Post is demonstrating why the newspulper industry is in such dire financial condition with its smear of Perry and the former name of some hunting property their family owned. I expect it from the dinosaur media but was sorely disappointed that Herman Cain jumped on the bandwagon on the weekend shows. We need to keep the focus on jobs and the economy and the dismal job that Oblamer has done and not get sucked into these non stories. One comment on the story that I note with considerable irony and that is Perry was a Democrat when they bought the property and when the alleged rock supposedly was poorly painted and you could still read the offending words. But as long as your politics are right for the liberal media anything goes so no problem. If this is the best they can come up with on Perry I would say he is in pretty good shape.

Its a "gotcha" world these days.

I once worked for a Colonel at the Pentagon (he retired as a two star) who gave me the worst chewing out of my 22 years in the AF.  I came back later to apologize and he said "Don't worry about it.  Just don't do it again, and by the way, I'd much rather have someone working for me who screws up getting things done, than have a person who never makes a mistake...and never gets anything done".

Hound, mark my words the media will try to make a big deal out of this because they know African Americans look for racism under every rock......pun intended. This just follows the template that Republicans are racists, homophobes, anti-environment, etc. The more you read about this article the more disgusted you get with the WaPo. That this made it to print, much less with 3,000 words speaks volumes about their bankrupt ideology. I guarantee it will be asked about in the next debate. I just hope the other candidates can control their desire to hammer Perry and take the questioner to task. This is a big opportunity for them to rise above the muck raking media. So far Cain has disappointed me in his response.

Come on MM ... the media vetted Obama that way when he was running ,,, didn't they?  We are just starting to see the left media rake all the republican candidates over the coals ... while they give Obama a pass on terrorist friends, Rev Wright, Solandra, the way he passed Obamacare, $850 billion stimulus, writings in his books, not releasing his grades, why he was disbarred (and Michelle), etc, etc .... non of that is important .... but a rock surely is.

And don't forget what Obama wrote in his book about whites ... those were his words (or his ghost writer).

This crap makes me sick ... Perry is not my first pick ... but he would make a heck of a better president than Obama.

The problem is Obama had no record to run on in the first place and now he has a horrible one ... so his only chance is to have the media help him scare people .... if he has not done enough of that with his failed policies.

How do you think Cain should have responded to the question about what he thought of the property being named N*****head? On the two shows I saw he just said that he thought it was insensitive. I didn't take that as Cain attacking Perry. He also answered the question about (him - Cain) calling most blacks "brainwashed" and he didn't back down from his statement. He reaffirmed that he thinks it is true and explained why. I liked his refusal to "take the opportunity to apologize" which is what I thought the interviewers expected.

I actually read this on a media outlet this morning. But, as I read it, no one is saying Perry wrote in on the rock -- just that it was on the rock at a hunting place that he frequented. If this is the worst thing they uncover about him, I don't think he has much to worry about. It's a 5 minute wonder. But, I don't like Perry and think he would make a terrible President. It has nothing to do with something written on a rock that he walks past. If Christie runs, he has my vote. Hodja, while your story is touching and rings true, I don't see how it applies to Perry in this case.

Just that Perry shouldn't be forever danmed because of one perceived mistake.  A "mistake" of not refusing to go hunting with his Dad on a piece of property they didn't even own because of something the owner had scrawled on a rock.

But the boo-birds will wail as if Perry had been out lynching blacks or dragging them behind their pickup.

You said a couple years ago that I should just accept the way things are now and not be "reactionary".  Is this current state of affairs in DC and politics in general what you want me to accept?

Nope. I think things have reached the point where we all need to be reactionary. I hope you are not right about this turning into some kind of racist referendum. Racism, perceived or otherwise, will not be solved by stories like this, and it takes the focus off the main issues confronting the country right now. BTW, I have adopted another dog. She is a lab mix of some kind, very sweet. She was being fed by someone I know, but popping out litters with regularity. They elected to take her to the shelter instead of having her spayed. I couldn't stand to see such a sweet dog PTS, so now she's making her home with us.

What really scares me is the vehemence with which the Tea Party is being villified.  Sure, there are some kooks in any movement but the basic tenets of the Tea Party movement are based on restoring some sense of sanity to our government.  That so many would attack it with such zeal makes me wonder about the attackers.

Glad you took in the pup.  She'll have good company.  We are in the throes of possibly losing our last cat - 16 years old, named Stormy because she was the only survivor of a litter holed up in the soffit of a beach house in Gulf Shores or Pensacola after Opal.  She is at the vet's now getting IV flluids to see if they can reduce the toxicity.  But at 16 years old these things get very iffy, even if the toxicity was caused by something she got into.

My point is that all these candidates have to recognize what the government media template is. He was asked about something by a far lefty and he basically accepted it as the truth and commented on it. That was a mistake. I would much rather have him answer it like this. "Come on Christie, considering the awful condition of the economy and Obama's total incompetence you want to ask me about some painted rock on a hunting property?!?!? I don't know anything about it and I am not going to comment on it but I will tell you this. Obama has to be a one term President. This country can't afford another four years of his incompetence and I am the man for that job. I know how to create jobs. You in the media can ignore the real problems this country faces and chase down meaningless stories all you want. I am going to focus on what is important to the American people and that is the economy." His answer, just like Romney and Perry arguing about who wrote what in which book is just a distraction. I think in fact that their back and forth is one of many reasons why Cain was gaining traction (along with his 999 plan). He needs to get back to what was getting him traction and ignore the stupid consultants.

I'm sorry about your cat. That is really tough. My girls are 15, almost 16, and I know the day is coming. They can hold them for a while on SubQ though. I had a cat with severe CRF and we held her for 6 months with good quality of life on SubQ fluids. If you want another cat, they had some great cats and kittens at the Lake Martin Humane shelter. I made the mistake of going into the cat room while I was waiting for my new dog. Good thing Feb was with me, or I would have been in trouble.

After this one, no more cats, no more birds.  We are just too busy to give them the time and care they deserve.

My wife will not go to a shelter AT ALL, for the very reason you cite.  She would be heartbroken that she couldn't bring them all home with her.  So I, the hard-hearted one, have gone to the shelter and picked out the last two.

What is SubQ?

Yes, I agree that your response is better. I heard a couple commentators say last night they think Cain's response was not the best probably because of his limited experience with politics. I'll give him a pass because I like him so much. He's competing for the top of my short list of acceptable candidates.

SubQ - subcutaneous fluids, i.e. fluids given under the skin for hydration.

We said the same thing about cats and birds (we have a dove), for the same reason.

Thanks for the education.  This particular cat has essentially had it "her way" for 16 years, in and out of the house at will, getting affection when she wanted it and being left alone when she wanted that.  If the current "flushing" doesn't cure her, then we will probably put her down rather than prolonging the inevitable.

After all, the gent heard her through the soffit of the beach house and took the initiative to tear into it and rescue her.  His wife is allergic to cats so they brought her by to see if we could find a good home fore her....you can figure out the rest for yourself...:>)
