Makes no sense... Nobody downstream is asking for the water... Not needed for power... Rivers are flowing into Hartwell well due to all the rain in then NE... Rained yesterday all over the region. Raining again today... Water level still droppng??? Why??? Now at lowest level in several years... What a missuse of a valuable asset!!! Need to elect local government officials that will protect this asset from being missussed!!!

Would anyone know what the typical Lake Hartwell water level variance has been over the last 25 years?  What is a typical low water level in the winter?

The question in the subject text should be WHY not HOW!  The CORPS is mishandling this lake.  Here's merely one example of bureaucratic balony that one who buys a house on Hartwell faces.  An inspector comes to your newly purchased house and points out every minor detail that is in conflict with the CORPS guidelines.  You fix everything and they reinspect and you NEVER see them again.  OK.  Doesn't seem too crazy right.  Well, the thing is they say you are not supposed to have a concrete walkway from your house to your dock.????  Look around the lake!!!  There are hundreds of these violating walkpaths.  Also, don't forget about "storage".  Say you want to put a nice "natural" bench by the lake.  Nope, considered "storage".  Meanwhile all around the lake you see every man made thing under the sun by the lake including broken down boats (I guess they're not "storing" it but hoping it will fix itself)..  Where is the consistency?  Therefore, one doesn't have to wonder why the lake is so low eventhough there has been sufficient enough water from the north.

Concerned Lake Enjoyer!

I agree 100%. We bought a lake house last year and once summer ended our dock was on dry land. Understandable in the winter, but Hartwell hasn't seen a rise of 2 inches since then. Our lake is being sent downstream!

Are you still around? Your message is old, but still very releveant, and I wanted to respond. Did you find out any valuable information? I am a property owner on Hartwell, and I am very upset about the overdraining. Please share any valuable information. I want to be part of the solution & learn more. Thanks!

Lew
