Yet another reason to doubt the veracity of those who say we are in a recovery. Since 2009 American median annual incomes have fallen more than they did during the recession. I am sure Oblamer will try to find someone to blame for this......Bush, hurricanes, tsunami in Japan, Europe debt crisis, etc. But the fact remains that under his watch and with two of the years having full control of government American incomes fell 6.7% which is more than median income fell during the recession.
This is exactly what you get when you repeat all the same mistakes of FDR. Ignore or ignorant of history? Doomed to repeat......

Now you want to blame Obama for incomes being down??? What would you say if he signed an executive order requiring all employers to give their employees a 6.7% raise?
The truth is the economy still sucks. Of course incomes are down. The market is on a roller coaster ride over the European debt.
Funny, a lot of people credit FDR as one of our greatest Presidents. Opinions vary.

Hound, of course Oblamer is to blame for the lackluster non-recovery. He is the President and as you frequently lectured us during Bush's term the guy at the top is responsible. As for FDR, no one can objectively come to the conclusion that he did anything but turn what was a worldwide depression to a Great Depression in the U.S. Again, read The Forgotten Man by Amity Shlaes. I have recommended this book to you before but for some reason you seem unwilling to read it but she does a good job of summarizing the body of work on the errant, reckless economic policies of FDR.
Had it not been for WWII he would have eclipsed Hoover in terms of economic malfeasance. This is all well documented. The perspective about FDR's presidency says more about the agenda of history professors than it does about reality.

I sought an early retirement. I was seriously burned out, and wasn't finding much joy anymore. I sometimes contemplate going back to work, but in this economy would feel bad taking a job away from someone who really needs it.

It is my understanding that a lot of the unemployment problem has to do with skills - or the lack thereof. Seems a lot of the unemployed don't take the initiative to get trained in another, higher skill - and thus there are a lot of jobs available to folks who have those skills. If that is the case you might not be taking that job away from anyone because the employer couldn't find anyone else skilled enough to do it.

Stay retired and enjoy it. Continue to work with the rescue mission(s). Take on another hobby, anything but a JOB. I am dead serious when I say that I am certain there are many charities and/or non-profits that would greatly appreciate the KSA's (knowledge, skills, and abilities for you non HR types) that you could bring to the group or organization. It would be a symbiotic relationship. You have the fulfillment of producing while not 'taking a job from someone who really needs it', and most likely your work will directly affect those that need the most help. (Hopefully anyway).
I know you are a charitable person and do some volunteer work. I make this suggestion because I have been associated with a couple of non-profits in the past. I can assure you that someone with skills that doesn't have to be paid is a treasured asset. More so than in kind cash donations even. Cash is spent and gone. Your KSA's will keep on giving.
There was time when if someone of your caliber walked in said I want to volunteer a few hours a week, as quick as I got through jumping with joy I would have asked, Why only a few? :<)
