There was a lot of drama that surrounded this announcement. He could not just come out and simply say that he had decided to suspend his campaign... Why suspend? Well, he can continue to take donations (for his "Plan B?). Although he claims he was not a politician, my observation is that he spun this for all it was worth... and then there is the $$$.
I didn't really care that he is straight with God (that's between him and God), nor did I care if he was straight with his wife (that's between him and his wife).. Is nothing too personal to be used for gain. And now we're supposed to hold our breath and see who he endorses. At this point, does anyone care? Nothing colder than an ex-candidate.
I'll be really glad when the primary season is over and we can get on with the campaign and the election. Can't come too soon.

Funny, I thought his speech was pretty good. And it is important to be good with all, even if he is using it to prove a point. He aspires to be a politician, and he hopes to be a grassroots one, so he has to leave the campaign with as much as possible in tact. Suspend was an interesting term though. I said earlier that I thought his campaign was shot, not so much for the accusations as for his lack of knowledge in so many areas.

I suspended the Herminators campaign following his "999" rollout, or was it 939, or 909, or 663, oh, check his website for the details. I wrote off his campaign when he took Perry to task for the painted rock at the hunting lease. I, in my mind, buried his campaign when he assigned blame for his women issues to competitors. He surrounded himself with the least competent campaign advisors available. Caint, and his outsider message, appealed to a large number of voters, maybe even enough to propel him to the R nomination. The good news is this info came out in October 2011 rather than October 2012.

Have to give you credit Hound, you call it as you see it. I actually don't disagree with much of what you said. But I am sure he has debt and that is how he can pay it down. No different than what Hillary did after she had to drop out.
I think the circumstances are unfortunate ... I liked the guy ... I liked his message. I did not think he was the best candidate, but I liked that he initiated the conversation in the campaign about the tax code and a much more simple approach.
The attacks, whether some truth or not, he was treated by the media far worse as a black conservative vs a black liberal. Every valid thing that was brought up on Obama was not vetted by the media and simply dismissed as not important.
Do you know Obama grades at Columbia? Do you know how his education was paid for and how he applied? Do you know why both he and his wife gave up their license to practice law forever to avoid a public disbarment? Just to mention a few ... that are far more important.

I don't think he was treated worse as a black conservative than if he was a black liberal. I think people responded to his denials and stonewalling. If you are going to run in the party of family values, people don't want to hear that you have a casual sex thing with a woman to whom you are lending money. And when you continue to deny it as women are coming out of the woodwork -- I think most people assume that where there is smoke there is fire.
It would have been much more effective for him to admit that he made mistakes in the past and he learned from them. But, I suspect this last situation was a nail in his coffin either way. I wonder how long it will take his wife to file for divorce?

I am very disappointed. I liked him. I was keeping him around the top of my list. But if one or all of the allegations are true, I'm glad he's stepped out. Some may say they do not care about a candidates personal life. I do. Whether cheating on a spouse or going through numerous marriages, it shows something about the person. These acts are hurtful to others; hurtful to those that they should care about most. It is possible that the allegations are all false. We will probably never know.

I don't especially care about his personal life, but my feeling is that when rumors abound, there is bound to be something to them. It's good he stepped down.
