As stated on this forum a couple of days ago I see no problem with requiring a photo ID to vote if  the effort required to get that ID is equal to all and if it is free and if provisions are included for the infirm etc. I do have a problem with hypocrisy! There is currently a push by the Republican leadership in the Iowa legislature to institute a photo ID requirement to vote in Iowa elections. That's fine. In the Iowa Republican Caucuses where the Republican Party sets the rules, it has been decided that no Photo ID will be required to cast a caucus vote. That is not fine...that is hypocrisy.

But I have to admit I have never completely understood or cared for the caucus system in Iowa and think way too much emphasis is given to their primary.  It is by no means a good prediction of the eventual nominee.  The list of Iowa winners that did not go on to win the nomination is pretty long for both parties.

One thing to keep in mind is that the picture ID issue is very state specific.  Don't know what the law is in Iowa but might be interesting to see.

Thanks. But a state specific requirement was my point. In Iowa the leaders who have introduced a photo ID requirement bill to be considered in the next legislative session are the same people who see no need for such a requirement for their own folks, its only needed for those who might be allied against them. There's the rub. Look at the far ends of the political spectrum left and right, there dwells hypocrisy.

I would not relegate hypocrisy to either end of the spectrum. When it comes to politics it is rampant throughout. Prime example was Ben Nelson of Nebraska who was one of the few remaining conservative Democrats in the Senate. Often voted with the GOP. Yet despite that he succumbed to the Cornhusker Kickback to be the final vote on Obamacare even though it was very unpopular in his state and he said on several occasions that he could not support it......but then did. Plenty of other examples from RINOs as well.

While your views have a lot of merit I think there is one point that makes it a little different.  If they pass the voter ID law it would apply to everyone in the general election, both democrats and republicans.  How each party selects their leader would be at their own peril.  Politicans in todays world do not hold onto priciple but go how the wind is blowing.  They are more interested in remaining in office than what is best for the country.

Does make one wonder why the difference. One would think they would not want Dems participating and trying to create some chaos. I just believe that it should one man/woman-one vote. Of course I am not a Chicago politician so what the heck do I know?!?!?

Happy New Year to you and your family.

It was god politics when Limbaugh encouraged Republicans to cross over and vote in the 2008 Democratic primary. I don't recall Martini yelling hypocrisy or bad government. Martini, did you vote for Hillary or Obama in the 2008 primary????

Happy New Year to you as well. No I don't like when either party's candidate is selected (or the selection is greatly influenced) by someone or a group of someone's that really have no interest in the candidate actually winning the general election. Having said that, unfortunately we in the GOP have to deal with the government media trying to influence who our candidates are. Now if you can arrange for the government media to butt out then I will denounce Rush's efforts. And by the way, I would never cross over to vote in another primary. I seriously doubt many Republicans did. It was more of a publicity stunt than anything else.

Alabama's Gov. Bentley (R) was elected in the primaries by the Democrat Teacher's Union (AEA) because the best Republican candidate had sent a few corrupt teachers/legislators to jail. The AEA union boss pushed the cross over voting and it worked. Now we've got an AEA loving idiot for Gov.
