He pays more in taxes than 99% of Americans. He gives more to charity than 99% of Americans. He makes more money than 99% of Americans. He pays long-term capital gains just like everyone else. He takes deductions just like everyone else that actually pays taxes and files the long form. He is rich.......... I hope this answers that question. Wow! What a total surprise......a rich guy makes money on his investments and pays taxes on the gains.........unbelievable......amazing.......

And that doesn't even address the double taxation aspect of his income.  So much for the argument that the rich don't pay taxes.

Can't wait for the SOU address tonight.  The part about supporting domestic energy exploration and production will be laughable!

I haven't understood the hoopala surrounding Mitt Romney's taxes. It's not as if he led everyone to believe he is poor and we suddenly find out he is rich. I assume he is in compliance with the current tax laws, so what is the problem with his tax rate? Most people try to limit their tax burden by smart investments.

Agreed ... Yet the dems make it out to be shameful that he paid taxes in accordance with the law.

At least he paid his taxes ... unlike many dems including our Treasury secretary that owed back taxes ... of course that was a Turbo Tax problem ... sad he is the head of the treasury and does not even know how to use Turbo Tax.

And lets not forget Charlie Rangel and maxine waters to name a couple more.

So let them complain that the millions Mitt "paid" in taxes was not enough ... but all Mitt has to do is remind them that he followed the law and did actually pay his taxes, unlike many dems in office that cry that people do not pay their fair share when they evade their taxes all together.

I think he, or his advisors, thought a lot would be made about the $27 million in income last year.  Personally, I don't care.

More needs to be said that it is equal opportunity for all.  He earned it and let others envy that he made so much.  Why should making money ever be an issue.  That is what is great about this country.

There is no class system like in India that restricts lower classes from ever moving up.

Not to mention the hypocrite Warren Buffett who is fighting with the government over $9B in taxes!! All he has to do if he wants to pay more in taxes is to bend over, grab his ankles and take it like a man.......

I don't see it as a "them" vs. "us" issue. I saw an article just recently that identified the wealthiest and the least wealthy members of Congress (it is mixed between both parties). It would be interesting to see their tax returns.

I'm envious... I would love to have made that much from my investments last year... and I wouldn't even gripe about paying the taxes on it.

The issue is that Romney MADE a big deal of releasing his return(s). First, current year only in April after the primary season is completed. Then, he loses SC and suddenly releases 2010. He came across as trying to either hide somethng by avoiding a release. Newt may owe more Medicare tax. He declared over 2 million in profit which is not subject to the the tax and a much lower salary which is subject to the tax for he and his wife. I suspect his return will be audited and he will have to pay additional tax .

sure we would all like to ... but I respect those that did.  I am sure people are envious of you or me as well, but it is all relative.   My only point is that nothing stops anyone from achieving more in life.  It is about choices, education, disapline, hard work, and brains.  Those that are more successful than others should not be penalized or criticized for thier success.  they should be applauded that we live in a country that allows them to achieve that success.

What I disagree with is the class warefare and talking about more equality in incomes.  I heard Maxine Waters this morning on CNBC saying a CEO should not makes millions of dollars while the people on the shop floor make $40K a year.  My reaction is why not.  I am sure we would have well run companies and job creation if we limited CEO's salaries.  That is just wrong thinking and it is scary that we have an administration and members of congress that think that way.  It may get them votes with certain people, but it is not good for the country or our future.

Jobs are a pyramid, as you move up it is the top talent that gets to the top.  We need to be applauding those that are up there since they are also out due to lack of performance.  But it took a lot of hard work and personal sacrafice to get there ... so why should it be redistributed to others that did not achieve the same education, hard work, travel, etc.

Our tax system already penalizes success ... all Obama wants to do is penalize it more, which I can not imagine how that is good for the country.

Romney was only responding to all the senseless brouhaha over him releasing his tax returns. Frankly he handled it badly but I understand why. The Messiah is going to kick off his class warfare campaign tonight with the ultra wealthy hypocrite Warren Buffett's secretary sitting next to Michelle. And we are going to hear that she pays a higher tax rate than Mitt Romney. Well duh.....she pays taxes on her salary while Mitt and the ultra rich like Warren pay long-term capital gains. But I like it anyway and my response would be something like this. "President Obama makes a good point that it does seem odd that tax laws result in Warren Buffett's secretary has a higher rate than Warren himself. However, unlike the President my response is we need to reduce her tax rate along with everyone else's rather than raising taxes on invested capital which will only result in further economic destruction beyond what his failed economic policies have already given us."

I agree with you, except on the point where CEOs are heading up companies taking bailouts, stimulus or the company is losing money due to poor management decisions. But, that is for their Board of Directors and their stockholders to decide. Waters, as usual, is whacked.

Romney's income is from investments held in a blind trust managed by an attorney. however, when running against Ted Kennedy for Senate in 1994, Romney referred to blind trusts as "a ruse." Considering Romney changed from pro choice to pro life, it is not a big deal to consider a blind trust no longer a ruse.

And that's just too bad for the left wing nuts....who by the way do the same thing.....ala Warren the Hypocrite Buffet that is fighting with the Feds over $9B in taxes. That worthless piece of monkey excrement sends his poor secretary to be humiliated on national TV while he fights over his tax bill. Typical libtard hyprocrite......oh, and we see that once again the Messiah and his one heart beat away iodiota are cheapskates when it comes to charitable donations. Romney gives 30% to taxes and charity......Oblamer and Biteme give 5% and 1%, respectively. Heck, even I give a much higher percentage than those two.....and that doesn't count the 35% I pay in taxes.

You are just a wannabe member of the 1% club. You offer me $1,000 while a real 1% member like Romney offered Perry $10,000. Call me a loser but you ain't no 1%errrrr. You are probably in the Starbucks 1% club.

GF, it is always interesting when you are faced with factual information detrimental to your beloved Messiah or his clownish sidekick you change the subject. Not that I blame you........just an observation.
