Many places, like ours, are unused most of the Winter. And full time residents are not close.
Presto! Thieves come calling again. Third time in 21 years. They did not get beyond the deadbolt this time around, but they surely tried hard. I guess just lucky it will only cost a new door installed.
I just wish I could avoid jail time by installing some type of trap on my property that would guarantee serious bodily injury for any a**hole who came after my "stuff".

Had a sheriff tell me 1 time - make sure you drag them inside before you dial 911 ! Also exzonerated after trail for animal cruelty, Judge agreed I have the rite to protect my property. shot a dog because he chased a cat on to my boat cover causing damage to the cover and boat.dog survived because I was only packn my smaller caliber back up!I dont think you would get in trouble for protecting your property as long as you do the deed in a humane way.

Do you have an approximation as to when this might of occurred? I saw an out of place vehicle in our area approximately two weeks ago. The best I could do was a visual, and there might not be anything to it. It was a late model white Mustang. Do not go by what you have heard. Read the law. A link is below. It is as strong a law as any other State. I do not think bear traps, bobby-traps, and/or rigged shot gun will apply to the law and in fact could injure or kill an innocent person such as a fireman or police officer in performance of their duties. You might consider security cameras. A simple trail camera (used by hunters) can work for weeks and can catch a tag number and or facial ID's.

The reference to actual law in Alabama is encouraging, if I am present when the burglary is happening. Smoke the slime as they come thru the door. But, it happens when nobody's home. They take my stuff, destroy my property, sell it off and sniff some more powder. UGGGHHH!
I have looked at Trail Cameras and will mount one soon, with a Flash. However, I think the results will be useful to me only. I cannot imagine that the Coosa County Sheriff would pursue my primitive evidence. The previous two burglaries, they didn't even collect fingerprints on MY tools used to steal MY outdrive!!!
Somehow, I just envision a cloud of poisonous gas, or the roar of a shotgun blast, AHHH, Justice.

Mack,  there was an article in the Coosa weekly paper about two months ago about the arrest of a couple of thieves.  They caught them by the car tags and other pictures from a game camera.  And the new flashes really do not flash but they do put out a small red light.  You might put up two and have one of them high enough that it would not be convenient to take down, or they will steal it too.

Good luck.
