Traded my Verizon for a Straight Talk. Got a CDMA phone, no contract, got twice the minutes, half the monthly cost, free 411. It's on the same network. Has the same voicemail "voice" and identical options. It sounds just like Verizon. Works the same too.

Just went to Verizon and upgraded my standard old cell phone for a new smart phone... which seems to be smarter than I am. The saleslady was flipping through all the things this phone can do, until my eyes just about crossed. I only really upgraded to get the weather apps.

Be sure to download WSFA Weather app from Montgomery, and ABC33/40 Weather from Birmingham. WSFA covers most everything except Coosa County. 33/40 covers Coosa from B'Ham. Both radars are current and accurate. Both showed the Friday storm very clearly as it approached.
If you have satellite or cable local weather, you lose power and they are gone. With the smartphone, you can still see it coming at you.

Exactly why I wanted it. Although we have a back up generator for power, it doesn't help with the cable.

WSFA will "follow" you wherever you go (if you set it up to do so) and will give outstanding info wherever you are....I've tried several weather aps (some are professional pilot weather aps) and WSFA is my favorite; I use it for work all over the country....This morning, I was tracking snow squalls in Rochester as I prepared for my flight to Atlanta. . Last summer at Aquapalooza, our group held position while many scattered east into the storm because we had solid storm tracking information.

Page Plus Cellular... It rides the verizon backbone of towers and cost:

$37.50 a month TOTAL for Unlimited Text, Unlimited Talk & 20 mb of Internet.

$28.00 a month for 1200 Text, 1200 Minutes of talk & 100 mb of Internet.

I been there and done that. This is the best. I use a HTC Eris Droid and love it...

If you get it from Radio Shack expect to pay more....
