Mayor Young called today to inform me she had spoken to my contact at BASS and they have scheduled a trip to Lake Martin in April to meet with local officials, tour the lake and review the local infrastructure to consider adding Martin to the Alabama BASS Trail.

Infrastructure - Hotels, restaurants, camping, boat ramps, fishing habitats, gas stations. Amazing thing is Martin has all the above and a lot more to offer to the BASS Trail clientele. Much more so than some of the lakes currently on the Bass Trail website.

1. First of all, big kudos to Maverick. Here is a shining example of a guy that is not from here originally, is principally based at the lake when he is here, but has gone to the trouble to help the area. It is really easy to sit back and say "why don't they" or "somebody ought to" or "these small towners should know better." It's hard to take the time and emotional risk to hop in and try to help. I don't care if we ever get named to the Bass Trail or ever see a penny of tourism from it. That's not the point. The point is to get involved. Mav has inspired me, big time!!

2. Mayor Young - what a civic leader. She has been serving the community for a long time. She taught my mom PE in high school and was principal of the 5 & 6 grade forever, for probably 75% of AC folks' education time. That's why I think of her first as Mrs. Young. But as Mayor she is still the same. We all loved her in school because she was fair, loving, but, we kids respected her because, as we would say back then, "Mizz Young don't play." She's still the same as mayor. Not playing around, getting her done. I love it. Lord willing, I hope I am still that passionate about helping the community when I am her age.

My dentist in Marietta ga is bringing his med size fishing club over to LM this fall............with a scouting trip in April to check out the fishing AND the facilities, motels etc. They wanted to stay on the east side, but not enough rooms. I hope lack of rooms is not an issue for a larger groups that the Bass Trail would be anxious about. Great job Mav.................

Thanks for that post, John. Although I do not know Mayor Young personally, I have several friends who do and I have always heard great things about her. I fully believe that she is one who only wants the best for Alex City and Lake Martin.
