The one in Red Hill? I've been mostly out of town for a month and this is bad news. I buy a lot of my local gas there and often get beer and other items in the store (I also use Nails)......If gas is ethanol laced, I'm no longer an Eagle customer because I will not put ethanol in my watercraft. When it comes to putting gas in my cars, I support the locals who continue to offer non-ethanol gas. Even if the price is a little higher, the increase in fuel economy usually covers the difference.

Two years ago, the company I work for supplied non-ethanol to about 40 stations. Now, we are down to 3. As of today, cost is about 20 cents higher for straight gas. Between the cost factor and the limited availability of straight gas at the terminals, there just aren't many stations left.
The Pure station in Our Town on Hwy 63 still advertises non-ethanol for anyone looking on that side of the lake.
pure-gas.org is a good source for finding non-ethanol stations.

I agree it's worth the extra 20 cents. The problem is most people only look at the pump cost and do not consider the drop in mpg or the ethanol damage.
It also didn't help when the brands were required to use a certain number of renewable gallons. This policy basically required them to switch every station to ethanol to meet the requirements.
Just wait for the upcoming E-15 announcements.

The Government fuel economy web site says "Using gasoline with 10% ethanol decreases fuel economy by 3-4%".
If straight gasoline is 20 cents higher than ethanol-added fuel and raises the price from $4 to $4.20, that equates to a 5% increase in price, and at lower prices per gallon the percentage price increase is even higher.
Seems that a 4% increase in mileage per gallon for straight gas over ethanol blend is not worth the 5% increase in the price.
Of course that assumes the government isn't engaged in prevarication. Anyone know of other scientific testing (not anecdotal evidence) that shows a different result?

NACS had live links to various ethanol blend/straight gas studies as recently as December. Have been digging around trying to find them and can't. Will share that I kept meticulous mileage/fuel consumption records, and my personal experience is the 2008 move away from straight gas to 10% blend produced a mpg decrease of 8% on every vehicle. Saw a drop of 1.2 mpg in Suburban, 1.48 drop in 4Runner, 1.05 in pickup, 1.9 in 530, 1.0 in Land Cruiser. I have posted on this a handful of times. Don't blame the retailer as UEM suggests. This is a result of yet another "we are soooo much smarter than you" policy adopted and implemented by the unelected, unaccountable lifers occupying positions at various federal agencies, and the current state of the economy where consumers will leave you for two cents per gallon, regardless of mpg gain. The nozzles at my stores are lifted and replaced a total of 2800 times each day. I've lost more customers to photo ID requirement for in store credit card buys than I have for blended fuel. That said, I wish I was in a position to offer straight gas as I would be my first customer.

Jimmy's in Equality has no-ethanol gas. Also, bunches of other necessities like meat and wine. A couple of years ago I discovered Jimmy's and I also did his web page. From Hwy 20, Equality is a tad shorter than going to Alex City. There is also a post office in Equality that I started using on a regular basis. It took me 40 years to discover what that little crossroads town has to offer.

My personal mileage tests are similar. In addition, one must consider the the negative effects ethanol has on equipment. It causes failure of many rubber and plastic parts present in many engines (newer cars have made adjustments so this is usually not a problem). It effects some gas tanks made of plastic or fiberglass. It can cause a build up of water and loss of energy if it sits too long in a tank (this will effect newer cars). If ethanol gas has started to deteriorate (which it does much quicker than non-ethanol gas), it can damage any engine......even your car engine that was designed to handle ethanol. If you don't believe me, ask any reputable small engine, boat, or auto mechanic.
On another front, our beloved government is subsidizing ethanol and the tax dollars we pay directly figure into this scenario..... The lower price for ethanol laced gas is driving up our tax bill and our national debt.
BTW Barnaget, I don't blame the retailer. I will however support any retailer that will offer what I want and what is best for my equipment. If we as a society are too stupid to throw up the B.S. flag on this, I guess I may be forced adjust at some point.

Agree, agree, and agree. I tell anyone that will listen that in season, blend degrades to the point of noticeable performance difference in less than 4 weeks. Anyone running a boat with big tanks should keep that in mind. Had a 28' Chapparel. Took it from winter storage, had it detailed, and filled it up on shore, with blended premium, before I splashed it. Did some light riding first few weeks in April, then skipped a few. Still had 1/2 tank just before Memorial Day. Big plans, took it out for shakedown, that beast struggled to get up on plane. Realized what I did, burned it off to near empty, filled up at Harbor Pointe, and she acted as she should. That was before I didn't know what I didn't know. Ethanol subsidies ended 12/31 and as far as I know, thankfully, have not been renewed. That is why we saw the $.07-.10 price jump the first week in January.

You all need to be worried about the rule, and APCO generating capacity, as they are forced, by these same unelected, unaccountable, faceless bureaucrats, to shutter coal fired plants.

if you happen by that way to or from the lake, on 231 by Southern homes and gardens they now have added another hose that is ethanol free, so you can choose 87 w/ ethanol or 87 without. Vive le difference.
Also they now take AmEx. Their car wash is great, it's now my favorite stopping point in Wetumpka.

The Eagle Station at Redhill still has ethanol free gas. It is up on the hill beside the other 2 pumps. They have made it very inconvenient and only one pump. Darrell sold the station to a " New American" ie Indian.

Thanks Dean....Glad to hear this. If they still offer the choice, I will remain a customer. I'm OK with the inconvenience of a remote pump if they offer real gas.

The Ethanol requirement also has driven up the cost of corn and thus all kinds of foodstuffs including beef. This whole thing was a political gift to the agriculture lobby just prior to an election. Just another "farm bill".
The political class of course knew of all the consequences of substuting ETOH in gas. Simple chemistry.
