HI all, I need some recommendations on someone to get rid of some pesky squirrels that have taken up residency in my roof (and not paying rent). The squirrels are actually in the soffett area where there is no attic. I asked my pest control guy - who is amazing - but he can't do it as the roof is too high and the pitch is steep and he doesn't have the equipment. Thank you for your recommendations! Dirt

12 Gauge! It will do less damage than a squirel.

Take a large trash can and fill it half full of water. Float shelled nuts on top of the water. They cannot resist the nuts and fall in, can only swim 10 secs straight down. You will get tired of cleaning squirrels out of the water.

What ever you do don't close the access hole before the young are gone. They will make your house look like Swiss cheese trying to get back to the babies. Once they are gone close it up.

Hey Dirt Diva,  We had this problem too.  More than likely you have flying squirrels!  It took me and Bryan a few winters to finally get rid of them.  We are still crossing our fingers that they don't come back.  Read up on them.  They are nocturnal and generations will continue to go to the same spot!  They are not easy to get rid of.

You will have to rent scaffold to be able to reach the area and be very diligent in your attempts to get rid of them.  After beating on the walls, trying the sonic sound things, bright light, etc.  We finally learned their habits.  They would leave out around 10pm at night and come back around 4am in the morning.  On our first attempt to block the entrance we used the spray foam stuff.  They ate right through it (and it does not kill them... unfortunately).  Our second attempt we used steel wool ( a lot ) and then Bryan nailed a piece of wood over the hole until we could see whether or not they were truly gone. Thankfully, they were gone. We stuffed the hole with more wool and spray foam and attached a piece of cedar that matched the cabin. He also had to do some wood filler and paint.

Good Luck.

What ever you do, do NOT use Boris and Natasha! They talk a big game but it seems everything they attempt to eradicate Squirrel is a bust. Good Luck!
