My brother lives here part time. He repaired about 40 ft of damaged seawall. Alabama Power posted a note on his dock to contact them. He honestly did not know you have to get a permit to repair. He thought that would be if you were putting in a new wall. After us talking about it we both understand why now to repair you must have a permit but, he never thought about it before.

Dont go to hard on him. He is a great guy but, we are wondering has anyone on the forum ever had this situation before? What could happen? He is going to call them tomorrow.

If he did repairs in the same location as the old one then he will probably just have to pay for the permit.

I did the same thing.  The made me document the changes and gave me a permit but I did not have to pay anything.

I have one friend who was made to completely tear his seawall down but He had cheated as he went 10 feet to far out. What irks me is APC will let one person grossly exceed the the total square footage of pier dock and floating dock and then deny someone else the same privilege. They will let one extend his pier 60. 65, or 70 feet and deny another person. They will let one dig out of the lake bed and deny another the same opportunity. Two years ago 16 dump truck loads ( 18 yards each) was dredged from the lake bed near mebut 10 years ago a friend and his neighbors appealed to do the same in their slough and they were denied. Its like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get.

My comment was not meant to imply that favoritism might be gained ....that is not my experience with them.  They have always been fair and reasonable with me in my dealings with them on shoreline matters.  I am sure they have a lot of situations where many factors must be considered.

Working on a pier or seawall without a permit is one quick way to find out if your neighbors like you. Just think of all the people that get along with their neighbors and do repairs that is not reported. Apparently most of these guys are not my neighbor! Hope it works out for you!

the floating dock is getting really close to our property line.  he has so many docks and sheds and junk it was just another half @ss carpentry job!  if it was crafted with care i probably wouldn't have complained. this was several years ago, as of today it is a wobbly mess like everything else he builds!

My brother called APC and spoke with them. They were nice to him and told him to contact them when he was in town next. He said he just told them the truth, that he didnt realize you had to pull permits to fix a wall that was damaged due to high traffic in his area. The wakes hit hardest on the point he lives on.

Anyway, I think APC is going to have him complete the documents and that will be all...

Thanks for everyone who posted about this...

PS: My bees are working at full speed. I may pull some honey this weekend and extract it... If your looking for a fun & expensice hobby get you some honeybees... Its great!
