Why can't restaurants make hush puppies?

Truman's, on Hwy 9 in Santuck.  Hush puppies serverd with onion and pickles as appetizer, and puppies with the meal also.  Pretty consistent and good.  I just came from a weekend at the Gulf, however, and your question fits there perfectly.

Most are way too bland. Need some salt, more black pepper, less flour, and overload with chopped ONION, ONION.

Family roots are in rural Ohio, but been a southern boy since '82. Married an Alabama (actually AUBURN)  girl from B'ham in 84 while living in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina for the duration.  I've learned boiled peanuts, black eyed peas, collards, pickeled and fried okra, brunswick stew, fried green maters, ribs, butts, briskets, cornbread, biscuits, grits, and much more, but never did a hushpuppy at home; don't know why, but it jus hasn't happened. Gotta throw Steve a bone cause he needs it.....jus sayin.

All you have to do is go to the right side of the lake. All of the best "Lake Food' is on 49 and 34!

Which place on 49 and 34 has decent hushpuppies? That's my area, BTW.
