All of you will have to forgive me for the questions I have here...I am new to Austin. I live near Lake Travis and it concerns me that the lake is as low as it is. It is my understanding that all of our lakes(Lady Bird, Lake Austin, Lake Travis, and Lake LBJ) are all fed and controlled by the Colorado river. I also know that every lake, except Lake Travis are "constant level" lakes. It makes sense that, since the lakes are fed by an active river, the CRA can maintain levels.
Here is the question: Why can we not fill up Lake Travis? I would think that letting more water in from the top of LBJ, while letting out the same amount from the bottom of LBJ would allow water to flow down to Lake Travis. If we can keep three of our four major lakes at a constant level, it would seem we could help out one lake that is 40 feet below normal levels. Does anyone know why this doesn't happen?

Hi,

While I don't yet live in the Travis Lake area yet, my understanding is the water in Travis Lake is used to supply Austin and the surrounding area with all their water related needs, including agriculture. Hopefully, someone (maybe the LCRA) will help explain why the other lakes maintain a constant lelel and Travis doesn't. I know this is a concern to all whose liveli-hood depends upon the Travis Lake water level.

Well, I know the water level is still far below normal pool, but at lease it's moving in the right direction for a change.
