The stretch of the Tallapoosa River that feeds the lake is the most beautiful river in Alabama. The attachment documents a trip 4 of us made this past Friday, from Horseshoe Bend to Jaybird Creek. It was great fun and we saw 2 bald eagles up close.

I think I saw my first Bald Eagle at LM this past Sunday A.M. in Parker Creek. He was flying patterns over our slough at maybe 50 feet for about 10 minutes. No white head visible. Checked my bird book later and convinced myself it was an Immature Bald Eagle. Colors/size were a match. Immature being about the size of a small Cessna.

Highly likely Mack that it was a juvenile bald eagle as they don't develop white heads and tails till between 3 and five years. I can take you to five different eagles nest on the shores of the lake. If I know that many how many do the 'experts' know about? Each nest seems to produce two eaglets per year, so it stands to reason that LOTS of eagles are flying around. I have told folks for years that about anywhere on the lake, if you look up, there is likely an eagle in sight. This is especially true on the northern end around Young's Island, as there are three nests in that section of 'big water'.
Watching those big suckers soar is truly a magnificent sight!!

Yes, Mack. They are in the area quite often. My wife has seen them several times over the last month or so. Beautiful site. She and my son tried to get some pictures but, alas, the birds just got higher and higher.

a favorite memory a few years ago. A bald eagle glided down our slough, circled, grabbed a rabbit, and soared away---simply awesome. We were on the deck cooking out and nobody said a word, everyone just stared in amazement. A great memory---for all but the rabbit.

First of all, George - great video!!! Fantastic work. I love to see some more local footage.
I have been wanting to paddle this stretch for a while in a kayak or canoe, but now would like to do it on a paddle board. I assume that there is plenty of water depth for the fin of a paddle board? They are about 6 inches deep. With the river being that big, I would assume there are always deep spots next to the rapids, right? Thanks.

John C, first of all, it takes 3 1/2 - 4 hours to make that run, I don't know much about a paddle board but I think that's a long time standing. This year, the water was about 3' higher than the previous years and it was nice. Even so, there are a lot of shoals and class 1 rapids. Some places you find a place to go through and you have about 10' to make a 90 turn to avoid a boulder. Our kayaks got really scratched up on the bottom, so I think the fin wouldn't survive. I've been once on a sit-on top and twice in a conventional kayak. I'll give you a holler next time we go, bring a banjo.
