Ok all of you foodies, I have heard a rumor that the folks from Cecil's will be taking over the restaurant at the Elks and it will be open to the public.  Is this true?

Yes as long as health department will approve septic tank, but my guess it will require an upgrade and will be too expensive. But sure would be nice to have a decent place to eat on the north end of the lake.?!,

Sounds reasonable to me.  Both have a history of questionable decision making IMHO.  Elks hired a woman who bankrupted two businesses prior to them hiring her, one a restaurant and one a marina.  During her tenure I called at 8:15pm to see what time the kitchen closed and was told 9pm.  I drove thru AC and all the eating choices to stop and support the Elks Club.  When I got there at 8:35pm I was told the kitchen had already closed.  When I pointed out that I had just called, they told me if they paid attention to every call about hours of operation, they would be there till 9 EVERY NIGHT!  Imagine that, a place of business keeping with the posted hours.  I haven't darkened the door of the place since that night, and I was a member.  Technically I guess I still am, just not in good standing. Which is reasonable because I always questioned any establishment that would have the likes of me as a member  ;<:)

The good folks at Cecils' advertised and put on a benefit concert to benefit themselves, and when that was a bust the place burned down within a week.  What is it with places named Cecils and fires?   I saw the ad on the front page of the 'Outlook' advertising the 'benefit concert' and pointed out to a friend that it had all the info EXCEPT who the recipient was.  I assumed it to be the recent tornado victims in the area since it was billed as a benefit after all.  I was actually in the hospital when one of my nurses told the the place had burned down.  She also told me about attending the "benefit" concert the prior week to help her friend the manager/owner.  That is how I learned that the 'benefit' was  to raise money for renovations to Cecils.  I then understood why the advertisement didn't list a recipient.  Who throws a 'benefit' for themselves?

Seems like a marriage made in heaven to me!!

$100k in septic upgrades because it would be a public restaraunt so, the deal is off.

"$100k in septic upgrades because it would be a public restaraunt so, the deal is off." I was under the impression that anyone could come in and eat at the Elks Lodge whether they were a member or not. I have been told that a couple of times lately. I wonder why the imposition of Tallapoosa County building code would differ between a private club that lets anyone eat there and a 'public restaurant'? Seems sort of strange, doesn't it? Is this the State of Alabama 'gud ol' boy' network at work?
