Strange how APC can release two turbines this weekend from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. I thought we were in a severe drought? What happened to the FERC variance put in place for the drought? LML is one foot down now, can't wait to see how it looks Sunday. This is wrong.

If I read the communication correctly, Weiss, Neely and Logan all must be 1 ft. or more below the rule for recreational releases from Jordan will cease

For a while Neely was above the 1ft below rule elevation, now it is over a foot down but Weiss is only .75 below the rule.

Finally launched my toon this past week but am watching the water elevation multiple times a day and left my trailer at the lake in case I have to make a hasty retreat.

On another note, the Stripe were rippin it up and biting fast this weekend. Had two on that never turned, headed North and took lures with em!

HAVE ROD, WILL TROLL!

Midage would you mind sharing some tips for stripers. You using bait or lures? Are you trolling lures of some kind?
Deep water?

No offense taken if you dont care to elaborate.

Thanks,
Chris

Happy to help.

I use two lures, a diver and a spinner. Lately having best success around 8 to 10 feet deep on 20 to 35 foot flats.

Diver of choice has been a H20 lure, model is a D9 if memor5y serves me correctly

Spinner is a Roostertail, bigger size for larger hooks

Use a 3 way swivel with the mainline to the reel to one side, the diver on a 1 foot or so leader on another side of the swivel and the roostertail on a 1 1/2 foot leader on the remaining side of the swivel. Keeping slight tension on the line as you are letting it out 50 to 75 feet will help reduce tangles. Idle speed and hang on

Still working on trying to get a sketch up of the trolling rig

I urge you to try to contact Alabama Power, They have indeed exceeded there release level.  We might want to consider at Lawsuit?

Variance must not apply to canoe party's. I looked at some photos from Friday, three canoeist and zero spectators. Sounds and looks like a huge event. What a joke and it cost us six inches of water at LM.

Additional Comment from Alan Peeples (Reservoir Management, APCO):

"Thanks, I appreciate that. Looks like you captured our conversation well. Just wanted to clarify that in my conversation with the NWS office last week, they stated that the pattern we have seen may be breaking. We (APC) will continue to monitor conditions closely and cautiously to see if that comes about. Also, the recreational releases at Jordan will be discontinued when all three upstream reservoirs (Weiss, Henry, and Logan) are 1 foot below their rule curves; it’s all 3, not just Logan Martin. There are also calculations for water availability that impact recreational releases at Jordan, not only the lake level trigger. APC’s hydro capacity is about 14% of APC’s total capacity (coal/gas/nuclear), but on average Hydro only produces about 6% of the energy for APC. Capacity and energy are different, but related. Capacity is the ability to produce electricity, while energy is the actual electricity produced, for example kilowatt-hours. I am not sure what the numbers look like so far this year, but I do know hydroelectric energy production for April was very low, only generated as we were releasing the required minimum flows.

I have already initiated the need for more detailed communications from here, and we are working to make that happen. I will let you know when we have put something together and how it will be disseminated. Also noticed that you filed LMLPA comments this morning, and that they have already been received by FERC. "

Weather radar is showing a big line of storms just passing over NE Alabama and NW Ga. ,with more coming. Hopefully the rainfall will help considerably.

I dont know what all has taken place but I do know that since LMLPA has posted the communications it has had with APCO the lake has held a higher elevation than before said communications. My thanks to the LMLPA for its efforts!
