I created an online form to sign up for the Castaway Island Paddle Board Race.

Even if you have "liked" it or marked that you are attending on Facebook, please take a second, click the link below, and sign up that way. I have a few more questions on there that will help us plan more accurately, such as:

1. if you are not racing and just plan to hang out, great! please let us know
2. are you coming by car or boat?
3. what race distances are you interested in racing?

If you reply here with these details or post them on facebook, it's nice, but it's a huge help to us if you fill out a registration.

Lots of locals are stepping up to help, such as Lake Martin Event Pics, who will be the "Official Race Photographer" - and Tow Boat US - Lake Martin will be there to tow any paddlers who run out of gas!!

As I have said before, we are kind of making this up as we go, so if you have any suggestions or would like to volunteer your specific business skills, or would be able to help lend a hand on race day, please let us know.  All help and volunteers are welcome, and we really appreciate it!

What is the entry fee and the prize.

Will any of the Beer Babes be there?

Kizma, thanks for the question, the race is free.

I needed to have that on the registration page, so I added in that detail.

The prizes - we are still working that out. The sponsors are donating things for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in both races.  We are trying to get trophies made but honestly we don't know how to tackle that one. Some other paddle board races I have seen online have custom wooden trophies that look like miniature paddles, or boards, or a combo of the two.

If anyone out there has experience or know how to design and do some custom ones, we would love the help. They don't need to be fancy, and we need 6 (1 - 3 for 2 races).

As to Beer Babes - since it's a free race, it's BYOB and BYOBB !

Mike just reminded me, the ad in Lake Magazine is wrong when it says there is a $15 registration fee.

IT IS FREE!!

The folks at Lake Martin Dock had to put in that ad like 2 weeks ago before we had a chance to think through everything.  It also said there was a 1 mile and 3 mile race, but I think that will change also.  It will depend on how many people sign up, but my guess is that we will end up having 2 races, one will be a 1/3 mile sprint and the other will be a one mile race.

We have applied to the Marine Police to approve this plan, but we think it will be a 1/3 mile course, basically a triangle. The start and finish line will be on the beach, on the other side of the store at Anchor Bay.

They have cleared out that long point that goes out away from the gas docks and towards the wet slips, so spectators should be able to come and bring a lawn chair and sit and watch the whole thing.
