Hope everyone on the lake knows that they shouldn't have to buy flood insurance, unless maybe their house is on a flood prone tributary that flows into the lake. Your mortgage company may make you prove you're not in a flood zone though. BTW, I had FEMA flood insurance from 1982 till 2007, and there was never a rate increase, so one is long overdue.

FEMA in their infinite & all encompassing wisdom & power, reclassified all of Lake Martin & Jordan May 2010; if you are in the "yellow zone" & have a mortgage, you will at some point be required to either : purchase flood insurance ; or--get an elevation certificate from a licensed surveyor [$400-$500} to prove the lowest point of your structure is at least 1 foot above base flood of 491

The FEMA.gov website has flood maps, but the resolution is bad. Try the Tallapoosa County Court House. The county flood lady can help you with maps.
