Just got $10.80 for 3 bags of crushed cans.. Drove 35 miles in my pickup, about a push vrs the price of gas.. Chatted with the owner, expressed my satisfaction that there was a place in Dadeville to recycle.. He said that he would probably have to close in August. EPA now requires he buy thousands of dollars in hardware and software to provide video feed to his computer to document all transactions, including positive ID of the seller, including thumb prints.. And at the end of the year, he is then required to send 1099's to all of his customers so they pay tax on their recycled cans.. Shoot, probably constitution in the eyes of SCOTUS.. However, another small, local business closes it's doors, more unemployed, and my cans now go into landfill.. Thank you federal government, you people are brilliant..

I guess this means that there will be areas East of Paces Point that will have aluminum cans "repurposed" as fish habitat.. :-) As ridiculous as the changes sound, I can believe they are close to correct. Everything coming out of DC is a "charlie foxtrot".

Just another insane regulation to come out of this administration to put more burden on businesses and destroy jobs just to try and collect a few dollars in taxes. Never thinking they are losing more taxes with the result of their actions. Not to mention the cans will wind up in land fills when they could have been recycle.

We take all our recycled stuff back to Atlanta. Amazing how much less trash is made when you can recycle glass, aluminum, paper and plastic. Kind of a hassle because a long weekend overwhelms our container at home so it takes a couple of weeks to get it all in there.

We collect our aluminum cans and bottles in our used dog food bags. Then we take them to our daughter’s house in Woodstock, GA and separate them into their recycle containers. It’s a hassle… but, it seems like the right thing to do. AND, it sets a good example for the grandchildren.

guess i was too obtuse.. live on lake martin.. eco friendly kinda guy.. have recyled aluminum cans for years, as long it did not cost to much to drive to the recycle place.. last week, was a push,, gas cost more than the money I recieved from cans.. still smiled until the recycle guys tell me the have to shut down because of new EPA regulations.. That's crushed aluminum cans.. so what does one do with plastic, paper and other stuff?? It goes into the trash and a landfill unless some genius here has a better idea??
