Subject:   Democrat Pat Caddell on Media Bias
Date:   10/1/2012 11:07:43 AM

Gave a speech recently where he explained why the mainstream media, or government media as it should be called, is biased and how the media is a threat to our democracy. Interestingly, he went all the way back to 1980, that's long before Fox News for you left wing nuts out there, as the starting point where the media first took sides in an election (Bush v Dukakis). He also points to recent polling where 60% of Americans do not trust the media at all or not very much. Of course there is a divide between Republicans and Democrats on this question and all I can say is duh! When you have a left wing media is it any wonder that more left wingers trust them? That alone tells you there is a bias in the govt media. One aspect that he pointed out that I never keyed on was the genesis of the symbiotic relationship between govt and the media that has evolved over the last 30 years. By that he mentions the numbers of people that migrate between the two and/or have relationships where one spouse is in govt or a campaign and the other is in the mainstream media. Lots of interesting examples from both the left and the right but because the mainstream media is left leaning there are many more examples of Dems invading the media and moving between politics and media. Glad to see at least one Democrat that admits to what is blatantly obvious to the rest of us.

That's interesting especially when you consider the Republicans have held the Presidency for 20 of those years and the Democrats 12. Where do you place CNN and FOX as Left, Center, or Right?

MM,

Thanks for this post. I have temporarily come out of my reclusion to just throw this out there for consideration.  What if the media was owned by 6 major corporations that have a hidden agenda?
Pat Caddell has noticed there is something wrong but does not see the whole picture.

Please see link below to read some facts about our media.

Obama is not an American or Black.  He is a Non Native Muslim that is 50% white.

On your first point, according to numerous polls America is still a center right country so it is no surprise that the only truly national office has been occupied by Republicans over the last 30 years. Just look at how every Democrat tries to sound conservative when they run for President. And I will say that despite the leftist leanings of the govt media in the past, they at least pretended to being objective. But in recent years the number of politicos that have entered the govt media has skyrocketed to to the point you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. And they saw how by ignoring the faults of their candidate and focusing negatively on the GOP candidate they were able to help elect an unknown, untested, deeply flawed candidate in 2008 and they are doubling down in 2012. As to your question the answer is CNN is clearly left leaning and Fox clearly leans to the right but no doubt with more balance than any of the others. To wit, I list the left leaning people on FoxNews: Bob Beckel, Alan Colmes, Juan Williams, Mora Liasson, Evan Bayh, Monica Crowley, etc. On CNN you have Bill Bennett. Every one of their remaining contributors range from left leaning to being downright and openly hostile to the GOP. On a related note, at least Univision is doing the job the govt media won't and is covering Fast & Furious and the murder of Mexican citizens by arms supplied by the Obama administration in a failed attempt to promote gun control But if you get your news from CNN, aBS, cBS, nBS, pmsnBS, NYT, WaPo, LAT or other govt media outlets you might not actually know this...... Which of course is Pat Caddells very correct observation. If the govt media as he put it, went after everyone with equal ferocity Obama would be down by 10% in all the polls, including the ones that oversample Dems.

but I am more used to the abuse heaped on me by the likes of GF, Archie, 2muchecstasy (still working on this), etc. However, read the article and am not sure where they are going. No doubt there has been lots of consolidation in the media industry as there has been in others. But I don't see how that contributes to the problem of media bias which existed before the consolidation.

Could not get the edit function but the first sentence was intended to say that Republicans have occupied the WH more than Dems in the last 30 years. Not sure why you can edit sometimes and not others......

You conveniently left off Ari Fleischer and Mary Matlin who both appear frequently appear on CNN. As your alter ego said, you are extremely intelligent to leave them off so I have to conclude it was a slip on your part.

Hmmm, I looked at a list of political contributors to CNN and neither were on it but they are indeed pat of CNN's team. OK, that's three to my list of liberal contributors to Fox. Point still stands that Fox is more balanced than CNN.

Thanks for making it so clear that the only people you will not run off the board with verbal bullying are those that compliment you and agree with you.  i may have lobed a zinger here and there, but i did not abuse you.  i did not call you profoundly stupid or twist your name around to imply you are a drug abuser.  i did not stomp my feet and insist that my opinion and those who agree with me are the only voices that may be heard.  This board would be much more interesting if those who disagree with you were not run out of town.  Have you noticed how few women even bother with this "discussion?"  if we can’t get past the rancor and divisiveness on a leisurely public forum, we will never get past it in the larger national debate.  i think it would be worth the effort to try.

Fox News isn’t real news, it’s just a racist, sexist, hateful, right-wing propaganda machine.

You're starting to sound like Hound. Honestly, I have had the worst things in the world said about me on this forum and I have never whined or complained. I take it as a compliment that my arguments are such that the only response is name calling. With the exception of GF, you liberals have zero sense of humor and your idea of tolerance is for conservatives to bend over and take it. Sorry, but being wrong about so much is worthy of a certain level of derision. I am not trying to convince you that your ideology is failed and totally wrong, which it is by the way. Or that a vote for Oblamer is economic and security suicide, which it is by the way. Frankly anyone that believes in leftist stuff and gleefully votes for TOTUS is probably beyond help anyway because they simply lack the ability to think critically. I just like the banter and guys like GF make it interesting and never whine about the tone. Archie drives by on occasion, calls me names and then leaves. C'mon, stop complaining and join the fun. I come on here and present tons and facts and logic and the opposing responses are either to change the subject (a favorite GF tactic....I'm onto you buddy...) or to call us intolerant, mean spirited racists or homophobes or whatever relevant pejorative works. That is why I hold left wing nuts in such low regard. But this is a rough and tumble place and no one makes you post. I am all for engaging in spirited debate but liberals define meanness as disagreeing with them. As for your non du plume I am working on, no one thinks you take drugs. Its just a common thing to change someone's name to take a jab at them. Frankly some of the names I have been given are pretty funny. Archie has a few he uses on occasion and I don't mind. And besides, there are lots of posts that do not involve politics that are pleasant and don't devolve into the rancor. Just participate in those and don't read the rest. Alternatively, get into the water on the politics stuff and take your best shot. GF does every day and despite being profoundly wrong most of the time he comes back and dishes it out. And occasionally, like a blind squirrel finding an acorn he makes me want to change the subject. And finally, stick around because after Nov 6th if the American people are stupid enough to reelect the Messiah you will have lots to crow about and the rest of us will be sporting a serious hangover. And if TOTUS goes down in flames I think what you will hear is not triumphalism but a big, huge, long loud sigh of relief. It will be years to fix the mess he left us.......

I will gladly exchange Fox News for aBS, cBS, nBS, pmsnBS, cnnBS, WaPo, NYT, LAT, etc. Not only can you do what you want with Fox after the exchange, you can help me celebrate the return of each of these money losers to fiscal health when they abandon their leftist tripe and start operating as news organizations. I honestly can't figure out the abnormal fixation on Fox News. Is it just envy that they consistently have the six top rated news shows on cable year in and year out? Just look at the numbers and revel in the fact that your govt media outlets dwarf Fox News viewership. Now when you add talk radio in there it is a little more level playing field but still, on the TV leftists dominate.

Even the candidate you supported agrees with me. CNN is just more balanced and has hired some hotties too. "In what some might consider an act of GOP political suicide, Newt Gingrich slammed Fox News earlier this week, saying that the cable news channel has favored Mitt Romney throughout the 2012 Republican race—and that CNN has been the more "fair-and-balanced" network this cycle. "I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through," Gingrich said during a meeting with tea party leaders in Delaware on Wednesday, according RealClearPolitics.com, which said it was granted access to the private event. "In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we're more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That's just a fact." The former House Speaker blasted the Roger Ailes-led network, blaming Rupert Murdoch, chairman and CEO of Fox News-owner News Corp., for the bias."

Certainly, bring back the hound.  I will take it upon myself to abuse her.  I don't agree with your political views nor do I agree with MM's political views.  I can name 2 women that would be much better suited to the job than either of the men selected by the large political parties.  I will keep the pressure up on the hound because she can only utter the "I/me" words.

Oh, you mean the guy that Romney waxed in the primaries? OK, I get it, so now you are a Newt guy. But after I did a google search I can now better understand Newt's perspective. Let's see, Fox suspended his contract and never renewed it. Newt has been on CNN a multitude of times lately, including his recent criticisms of the Romney campaign. So that's a good way to get invited on CNN, be a conservative trashing Romney. They will love you like they used to love McCain.....until they stop. But there is no doubt Fox is biased and again my offer stands. You can have Fox to do with what you want as long as I get the rest. Deal? Didn't think so........

You disagree with my political views?!?!?!? Shame on you for deeming to disagree with me! And to think GF calls you hob nob or other snarky names. I certainly hope he has a renewed respect for you now! :-) You see xstasy, not everyone here slavishly agrees with me and that's OK. Some of these guys even make me seem like a bed wetting liberal.....crazy right wing libertarian nut jobs! I am actually a moderate in their eyes. A little squishy when it comes to certain topics of a political nature.

I would express my political views.  However, the last time I did that, somebody had my post removed for being abusive.  I didn't even call anyone names other than telling everyone the leader? of our country was nothing more than the pretender in chief (PiC).

A little levity for the day....the word "pic" in Turkish (the "c" in pic has a little squiggly at the bottom indicating it is a soft "ch" sound) literaly translates to "son of many fathers".  Therefore one of the first things American servicemen and families are taught upon arriving in Turkey is that that we not call a peach a peach, but a sheftali, else we insult some poor Turk who thinks we are doubting his parentage.

So, if in future postings I ever refer to someone as a "real peach" keep the Turkish translation in mind.

Not the guy who waxed Romney in the primary, rather the guy you supported in the primary. And, the same guy you paired with Reagan as a true conservative. Now wax on that for awhile.

I did not support Newt in the primary. My guy was Santorum, who is helping Romney and not carping about his campaign to leftist media outlets. Newt is an idea guy and I enjoyed his rightful abuse of the media and their questions in the debates. But I did not see him as the strongest candidate for POTUS and did not vote for him in the primary. And I remind you that in 2008 I voted for Romney in the primary as I saw him as the best candidate and certainly better than McCain.

That would have been me perhaps who voted and pulled for Newt. Since he did not win the primary I will Vote for Romney not because he is Republican but because he is much desired to bring this back from the mess that O,what a disaster has got us into and frankly scared to no end for the future of this country not to mention my family.
