Surprised I couldn't find a thread about property taxes since the notices have been mailed out. Is everyone ok with the fact that their taxes haven't lowered although property values have? Along with thoughts on this I'd like any hints on getting someone to answer the phone at the tax office! Thanks in advance! (p.s....my prop taxes went down at my county of residence....just sayin.)

hey we're in a recession--don't forget--gov't needs all the $$ it can get; also I forgot--we're all better off than we were under the previous administration ! for some reason I have to keep reminding myself of that !

Tax office doesn't seem to think mine should go down. Amazing. What recession? Obviously they think it's selective.

Interesting.  When I received my re-appraisal last year, I issued a challenge to the Tallapoosa Board of Equalization and appeared before a hearing there.  I brought current real estate comparables from houses in the neighborhood supporting a $200K drop in value.  I also brought an appraisal demonstrating the same drop in value.  They were polite, listened and said they would get back to me.  About 10 days later I received notice that my request was DENIED.  The only appeal is to circuit court.  I got no relief, not even a $1 drop in value that was honestly at least $200K over the current value.  As others have said, the county was very eager to raise values 6 years ago, but they are not so interested in accurate values now.

Ya gotta love the gov't that stifles improvement or enhancement also. If you improve your prop & increase it's value (which I have NOT) they are there with their hand out. My prop taxes have not gone down during this "recession" which supposedly all property values suffered. Too bad there's not another "New World" for us to flee....
