I set mine to pick up the new show on History Channel last night called Bamazon.  A group of "good ole' boys" that go to seek gold in the Amazon rain forest.  Had seen the promo for several weeks now.  Was shocked when I played it back today to find it is a local (Dadeville) guy and his crew.  Tim Evans is his name.  Says he has been local contractor for years.

Was he the part owner of The Cove Rest that went bankrupt, and the development on the lake off Highway 63, just outside Alex City that I believe went bankrupt also?

yep. Same guy. I hope for everyone else's sake that this gold venture will not meet the same ending as those many other sad stories.

Off to a rocky start for sure, at least by the editing.  I knew I had heard the name b ut couldn't place it till I read this.  I'm betting the History Channel makes lots more than the miners.  It appeared very disorganized and chaotic and he came off as an ahole.  but that could all be in the editing.  Just like this forum, without controversy and occasional conflict, it gets boring.

Something tells me that if they had had success the word would have already been out around the neighborhood. Does anyone know any of the other characters?

It was a Motley looking crew for sure.  He claims they "made him a fortune" once, and now he is counting on them to do it again.  All these gold mining shows seem to find the most inept folks they can round up and send them around the world making bad television and no money.  Discovery's version is most popular show in the history of the channel, even beating Shark Week.

In that case, those guys are not from this area. Seems Mr. Evans lost his fortune in the Lake Martin area. But, his forte' seems to partner up with people who have money and then lose their money. He seems to use "other people's money" as well as o-BAMA. Be interesting if he can clean the History Channel's clock.

Absolutely NOTHING to do.  I have been told to hush by family.  See link below.  OMG.

You are absolutely right.  I know one fine person that tangled up with him and got taken for a very expensive ride.  Like you said, he seems very adept at spending other peoples money.

Simple math,, if they got rich, they wouldn't be back here. As one ol the local papers said, "Tim is looking for a new crew to go there for the second season". I know 3 of them. Colorfully folks to say the least!

I am sure that the film crew will make more money than Tim and his crew.  If it was a profitable venture the professional gold mining companies would already be there.

I was especially impressed with the yoga dude that likes to carry his dog on his shoulders and went, not for the money, but to 'experience the jungle'.

Ah ha, I knew someone would have the skinny on them. Can't hide out, especially in Dadeville.

Oh yea.  Real POS in my book.  One would think that History would vet out the folks they team up with a little better.  Of all the folks they could have gotten to do this, they choose one with a very, well lets just say, colorful background.

I loved it when the carpenter said he should put down the coffee cup and grab the one hammer they had....lol.  He sure never got his hands dirty in the first episode.  Wonder how our mutual friend feels about seeing him on TV pretending to be something we know he is not??

I would be real careful about how far I took my comments about Evans. Some of this can veer off into slander. "jus sayin' "

I do believe he was the owner of the house that burned at the Ridge a few months back.

Truth is the ultimate defense against slander.  He can file against me any time he wants.  I would welcome the opportunity to air his dirty laundry.

At least it's better than what Honey Boo Boo did for Georgia...

Hey I don't know the guy. I agree with what you said but sometimes its hard to recognize the truth from fiction. For me it wouldn't be worth the aggravation.

I don't know him either, but I do know some of his former partners and associates and how things worked out for them and what they have to say about he guy.
